Watch it if you want a crime story told with the restless energy of a camera that never sits still, where the violence is brutal and the storytelling is sharp enough to make you forget how hard it hits.

Made two decades earlier with real street kids playing themselves, this is the rawer, harder ancestor — less stylised, more devastating, a documentary nerve running through fiction.

But The lack of polish and pacing may feel alien after City of God's propulsive editing; this sits inside the wound rather than racing through it.
