Terms of service

These are the terms on which you may use Sarita. Using the site means you accept them.

What Sarita is

Sarita recommends films and television programmes, and lets you keep track of what you have watched, what you thought of it, and what your friends are watching. Most of it is free. VIP is a paid subscription with more besides, and the terms for it are below.

The recommendation text on this site is written by a large language model. It is generated from factual information about each title, and it can be wrong: about plot, about tone, occasionally about facts. Treat it as an enthusiastic opinion rather than a reference work. Every page carries this warning for the same reason.

Your account

  • You must be 13 or older to create an account.
  • One person, one account. Do not share it, and do not use anyone else's.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has them.
  • Your handle must not impersonate somebody else, and must not be chosen to mislead. We may reclaim a handle that does.

VIP, if you buy it

  • Who sells it. VIP is sold by Stripe, acting as merchant of record: Stripe takes the payment, issues the receipt and accounts for sales tax. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, including VAT or GST where it applies. Stripe's own terms, which name the Stripe company you buy from, are on Stripe's legal pages.
  • Renewal and price. It renews automatically, monthly or yearly as you chose, until you cancel. We will not raise your price for at least two years from when you first bought it. After that, if the price changes, we will email you before it applies, in time for you to cancel first.
  • Changed your mind? If you cancel within 14 days of first buying VIP, we will refund it in full. Write to admin@sarita.ai.
  • Cancelling. Cancel at any time from your settings. You keep VIP until the end of the period you have paid for, and it does not renew. After the first 14 days, we do not refund part of a period.
  • Changing plan. Moving between plans or between monthly and yearly takes effect at once, and the difference is charged or credited pro rata.
  • Family plan. The person who pays can give a place to up to four other people with accounts. Their VIP lasts as long as the plan does. The payer can take a place back at any time, and a guest can leave.
  • Deleting your account ends a subscription at once, with no refund for the rest of the period, and ends any places you gave on a family plan. If you want what you have paid for, cancel first and delete your account when the period ends. Within 14 days of first buying, ask us for your refund before you delete.
  • Your legal rights are not affected, including any right to cancel, or to a refund, that the law where you live gives you.

What you may not do

  • Break the law, or use Sarita to harass, threaten or abuse anyone.
  • Attempt to reach another person's data, or any part of the service you have not been given access to.
  • Manipulate the ratings or the recommendation votes, including automated voting or coordinating to push a title up or down. Votes are used to decide which pages get rewritten, so this wastes real money.
  • Scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for other people, or resell its content.
  • Upload or transmit malware, or try to disrupt the service.
  • In a hot take, post spoilers without ticking Contains a spoiler, links, computer code or advertising, anyone's private information, or anything abusive, threatening or hateful. A hot take is about a film or programme; do not use one to talk about another member.

We may suspend or remove an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable to do so we will say why.

Your content

Your ratings, lists and profile remain yours. You give us permission to store and display them as the service requires: showing your rating to a friend, for instance, if your settings allow it. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except that we may keep records of it for safety, as our privacy policy describes.

That includes your hot takes. You give us permission to show each one to the audience you choose, including anyone if you choose Public, and to send it to the service providers named in our privacy policy to be checked. Choosing Public submits a hot take for possible public display: which ones are shown publicly, and where, is our choice, made automatically or by our editors, and is not a judgement that a hot take breaks these terms.

You can export everything, or delete your account outright, from your settings. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Our content, and other people's

The site's design, code and generated text belong to the operator of Sarita. You may link to any page here freely.

Film and television information comes from third parties who require acknowledgement, and it remains theirs:

  • TMDb: this product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
  • TVMaze: data licensed under CC BY-SA.

Posters and images are the property of their respective rights holders and are shown for identification.

Availability

Sarita is provided as it is, without warranty. It is a new service, it will sometimes be broken, and we do not promise it will be available or that its recommendations will suit you. We may change or withdraw features.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Nothing on this site is professional advice. It recommends television programmes.

Ending it

You can stop using Sarita at any time and delete your account from your settings (see above for what that does to a VIP subscription). We may close an account that breaches these terms, and may withdraw the service entirely. If we do, we will give notice where we can, so you can export your data first.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new date above. Continuing to use Sarita after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Law, and getting in touch

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove protections you have under your own local law.
