Should you watch it?

Watch it if you love slow-burn suspense where the dread comes from ordinary men making hard choices under pressure, and you don't mind a long wait before the tension fully takes hold.

Skip it if you need brisk pacing or constant action, since the first long stretch is talky and the nerve-shredding material arrives only after a lot of setup.

What it asks of you: Settle in for well over two and a half hours, with a deliberate opening that rewards patience and a second half that grips tightly, all shot in grimy heat and gloom.

Stallone clinging to mountains chasing stolen money is Clouzot's dread rewritten as pure, unpretentious spectacle — and it's genuinely a lot of fun.

But It has none of the original's patience or fatalism — this is loud, cheerfully dumb action cinema.
