It's ostensibly a climbing documentary, but really it's a portrait of an unusual mind — patient, exacting, almost frighteningly calm — filmed by people who loved him enough to be terrified they were filming his death.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you want a patient, close-up study of nerve and preparation, the kind of documentary where the tension comes from watching someone rehearse the same climb again and again.

Skip it if you find sustained height-based suspense exhausting, or want a documentary that roams far beyond its one goal, since this stays narrow, focused on one climber and one rock face.

What it asks of you: It runs 100 minutes and moves at a measured pace, lingering on quiet routine and long stretches of waiting, so it rewards steady attention more than constant excitement.

Free Solo is fascinated by a man whose relationship with mortality is eerily calm; The Bridge turns that same question toward people who chose to end their lives, asking what separates control from despair.

A documentary built from a year of filming the Golden Gate Bridge, interviewing the families of people who jumped — meditative, devastating, and unflinchingly curious about why someone chooses to stand at the edge of death.

But It is genuinely harrowing, ethically debated for filming actual deaths, and offers none of Free Solo's exhilaration.
