Hitchcock's tense drama about a priest bound by the seal of confession while a murder investigation closes in around him — decades before The Keepers, asking the same question about silence and complicity.
But Stagey by modern standards and morally simpler — a thriller, not an indictment.

Meryl Streep's nun suspects a priest of abusing a student, and the film sits, deliberately, in uncertainty rather than resolving it — a fictional mirror to the ambiguity real investigators lived with for decades.
But Fiction can't carry the same weight as real names and real graves — it's a thought experiment, not a case file.

Takes the same subject — a Church-run institution abusing and silencing vulnerable women — and pushes it into horror, proving the material was always monstrous enough to need no embellishment at all.
A found-footage horror film set in an Irish Magdalene laundry, where the real evil turns out to be entirely human and entirely institutional — genre trash with a genuinely furious point underneath.
But It's a horror movie first — jump scares and atmosphere over careful argument, and it plays fast with supernatural elements.
