Film noir keeps returning to one bad decision made by an ordinary person who thought they were smarter than the trap. Rain-slick streets, venetian-blind shadows, and a narrator who is already doomed by the second reel set the mood. You leave it feeling a little cynical, and a little glad to have been there when the city swallowed someone whole.
