Two sweet, well-meaning hillbillies just want to fix up their fishing cabin, but a gaggle of college kids convinces themselves the pair are backwoods serial killers — and then proceed to die, hilariously and gruesomely, entirely by their own hand. It's a slasher movie run backwards: the monster is innocent, the victims are the danger, and the gore is played for laughs, not scares. Perfect for anyone who's ever wanted a horror film with a heart as big as its splatter.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you enjoy horror-comedy that flips the slasher formula so the terrified kids are the real menace, and you laugh hardest at misunderstandings played with a completely straight face.

Skip it if you want the scares to land properly, since this is a gore-heavy ride that treats its carnage as a running joke and may feel thin if you need the tension to stay serious.

What it asks of you: Runs under ninety minutes and moves briskly, staying loose and goofy throughout, with a gruesome streak you have to be willing to laugh along with.

Same moral machinery as Tucker and Dale: an innocent, physically frightening figure destroyed not by his own actions but by other people's panic and assumptions.

The original story of a gentle, misunderstood creature destroyed by a terrified mob who decide he's a monster before he's done anything monstrous. Tucker and Dale's whole engine, ninety years earlier.

But Stagey, slow by modern pacing standards, and entirely without irony — this one plays its tragedy completely straight.

Black Sheep2006

New Zealand splatter comedy about killer sheep that has the exact same DNA — rural setting, gleeful gore, and jokes that land because the film never winks too hard.

But Even sillier premise, and the effects are charmingly cheap rather than polished.
