Mythological fantasy
Gods who bicker like neighbours, heroes who take a wrong turn and pay for it, and monsters that turn up exactly when the plot needs them. Mythological fantasy takes old stories about gods and mortals and lets them run on, rewritten and rearranged, so the ancient machinery still creaks and sparks. You get the sense of a world that was already old before the film began.
