Absurdist comedy
Absurdist comedy is the genre where the world follows its own strange logic and the characters simply try to get on with it. Think of a bookshop run by people who would rather not sell books, or a detective agency where the cases get stranger than the staff. The jokes often come from earnest people holding perfectly sensible positions in an unreasonable universe, which leaves you laughing and a little unsettled at the same time.
