Cowboy Bebop1998

Same DNA: mismatched crew, found-family warmth, and music used as emotional shorthand rather than background noise — just told slower, sadder, and in a different medium entirely.

Space bounty hunters, a ragtag crew who become family despite themselves, and a soundtrack doing as much storytelling as the plot — this is Guardians' anime ancestor, only sadder and cooler.

But Episodic anime pacing and a melancholy undertow that never fully lifts — don't expect wall-to-wall jokes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 22017

More of everything you liked — deeper found-family stakes, another killer soundtrack, and the emotional gut-punch the first film only hinted at.

But Baggier and more sentimental; the plotting sprawls where the first film stayed lean.

Men in Black1997

A buddy comedy dressed as a sci-fi actioner, with the same trick of undercutting alien menace with genuine wit. Fast, funny, and endlessly quotable.

But Smaller scale, Earth-bound, and more of a straight comedy — less spectacle, less heart-tug.

Ant-Man2015

Another MCU entry that treats a heist plot with a light touch and lets its cast be genuinely funny rather than just quippy. Low stakes, high charm.

But Considerably smaller in scope — this is a caper, not a galaxy-spanning odyssey.

A crew of outlaws and drifters in a beat-up ship, bickering their way through the void — this is Guardians' spiritual sibling with more western dust and less neon.

But Wrapped around a cancelled TV show's mythology, so some emotional beats land better if you know the characters already.

A slick, fun reboot that balances genuine adventure with humour and a crew you want to hang out with. Great gateway if you want more space, less irony.

But Plays things straighter and more optimistic — less anarchic, more earnest exploration.

Deadpool2016

Takes the wisecracking-antihero energy and cranks the irreverence to eleven, with a soundtrack that's just as deliberately curated for laughs and nostalgia.

But Much more violent and crude — this is the R-rated cousin, not a family-friendly romp.

The Dirty Dozen1967

Guardians borrows its whole structure from this: strangers, criminals, forced together, becoming a unit worth dying for. Same bones, war-movie skin instead of space-opera paint.

Criminals and misfits get thrown together for an impossible mission and slowly earn each other's loyalty — the exact shape of Guardians' team, decades before space lasers.

But A gritty war film with none of the colour or comic-book gloss; the humour is drier and the stakes are lethal, not cosmic.

Baby Driver2017

Both films treat the soundtrack as a character, using needle-drops to carry emotion the dialogue won't say outright — one in a getaway car, one in a spaceship.

A getaway driver who scores his life to a personal soundtrack, pulled into one last job with a crew of dangerous personalities — the mixtape-as-narrative trick done as grounded crime thriller.

But No spaceships, no aliens, no jokes about being Groot — this is tense and often brutal rather than playful.
