Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 doubles down on everything the first film got right: filthier jokes, bigger fourth-wall breaks, and a surprisingly sturdy emotional core buried under the chimichangas. Cable's arrival adds a proper action-movie skeleton to the anarchy, and the film is smart enough to mock its own sequel-itis while still delivering a real story about grief, found family, and saving a kid nobody else wants. Loud, profane, oddly sincere.

But Rougher and colder than Deadpool 2 — less warmth, more willingness to make you genuinely uncomfortable.

Blazing Saddles1974

Deadpool's meta-jokes and genre-mockery didn't come from nowhere; Blazing Saddles invented the move of a comedy openly laughing at its own movie's conventions decades before superheroes existed.

Mel Brooks tearing down the Western with anarchic, fourth-wall-smashing gags and zero interest in good taste — the direct ancestor of Deadpool's entire comedic DNA.

But Fifty years old and it shows — some of the humor is deliberately, pointedly offensive in ways that read differently now.

21 Jump Street2012

Peak self-aware buddy comedy that knows exactly how dumb its genre is and leans into it, much like Deadpool leans into superhero cliché.

But No action-hero mayhem here — it's a cop comedy, so expect fewer fights, more improv-heavy riffing.

James Gunn's gloriously gory, profane superhero team-up shares Deadpool's disdain for good taste and its soft spot for damaged characters.

But Even gnarlier and grosser in places — if Deadpool 2's violence was borderline for you, this pushes past it.

Same studio, same mutant universe, but stripped of jokes entirely — a brutal, elegiac counterpoint that shows how far this world can bend toward tragedy.

But Zero comic relief; it's a heavy, mournful film, the tonal opposite of what you just watched.

Ryan Reynolds doing his charming-idiot schtick again, this time inside a video game instead of a mask, with the same rapid-fire likability.

But PG-13 and considerably softer — none of the profanity or gore that gives Deadpool its edge.

Absurdly over-the-top gun-fu with a wink at its own ridiculousness, for anyone who wants the action turned up and the plot turned way down.

But Thin on character and jokes compared to Deadpool — it's pure spectacle, not much else.

A genre mashup that's part slapstick comedy, part martial arts epic, with the same delight in blowing up expectations of what its own movie should look like.

But Subtitled and stylistically very different — wuxia-flavored rather than Marvel-flavored, which some viewers find jarring.

Same engine as Deadpool 2 — subverting cape-comic tropes with real gore and grief — but told straight, in a different medium, without a single wink at the camera.

An animated series that takes the 'superhero comic but brutally violent and emotionally real' idea and plays it with total sincerity, no fourth wall required.

But It's a season-long animated drama, not a two-hour joke machine — commitment required, and the violence is genuinely shocking.

About Time2013

Cable's whole arc is 'use time travel to stop losing someone you love'; About Time tells that exact story completely straight, revealing the sentimental core Deadpool 2 hides under wisecracks.

A quiet, earnest British romance about a man who can travel through time to try to save the people he loves — the same core idea Cable is running on, minus the mercenaries.

But No jokes, no violence, no superheroes — this is a gentle tearjerker, about as far from Deadpool's register as it gets.
