Delicious in Dungeon
A fantasy dungeon-crawl that swaps loot for lunch: a rescue party eats the monsters they kill, because coin is scarce and slime stew is nutritious. It's gorgeously drawn, genuinely funny, and weirdly cozy — half culinary procedural, half grief-tinged adventure about a sister lost to a dragon. Great for anyone who wants their fantasy with a side of actual cooking technique.

But It's melancholic and slow-burn where Dungeon Meshi is zippy; if you wanted more jokes about eating basilisks, this won't scratch that itch.

Same obsessive love of dungeon ecology and monster design, but played dead straight and considerably darker. If the worldbuilding was your favourite part, this goes deeper and stranger.
But It gets genuinely brutal — this is not a comfort watch, and the tonal whiplash from 'cute kids' to horror catches people off guard.

Swaps monster meat for herbal poisons and court intrigue, but keeps the same pleasure in watching a specialist explain her craft with real expertise and delight.
But Mystery-of-the-week palace politics instead of adventuring — no combat, no dungeon, a completely different rhythm.

Tampopo1985
Same DNA: a story that finds genuine suspense and joy in the mechanics of cooking. Tampopo did the 'watch someone lovingly prepare food as the actual point of the scene' thing forty years before Laios explained mimic tenderness.
A Japanese 'ramen western' that treats the making and eating of food as high drama, comedy, and even eroticism — vignette after vignette of pure culinary obsession.
But No fantasy, no monsters, no plot in the conventional sense — it's an anthology of food scenes, which some viewers find meandering.

Strip away the dragons and jokes and Dungeon Meshi's premise is basically survivalist foraging under pressure. Alone is that fantasy made brutally, unglamorously real.
A reality show where contestants survive alone in the wilderness, foraging and eating whatever they can catch — real stakes, real hunger, real improvised cooking.
But It's slow, unscripted, and utterly without jokes — the opposite of a cozy watch, closer to quiet dread.
The Menu2022
Both fixate on the ritual and theatre of preparing food as a way of revealing character. The Menu is the nightmare mirror of Senshi's kitchen — same reverence for technique, aimed at dread instead of delight.
A pitch-black satire where a celebrity chef stages an elaborate, terrifying tasting menu for guests who slowly realise something is very wrong.
But Genuinely tense and cruel in places — a thriller wearing a cooking show's clothes, not a comfort meal.
