Folk horror
Folk horror is horror that happens in the open air, among people who have kept old customs for so long that nobody remembers why. The outsider arrives with modern certainties and finds a village, a harvest or a hill that expects something in return. What unsettles most is how reasonable the locals seem, and how the dread grows from the feeling that the rules were never meant for you.
