Date Movie
- Parody
- Romantic comedy
- Light-hearted
A romantic-comedy spoof that dismantles dating movie clichés through broad sketch-comedy energy. It's silly, relentless, and knows exactly what it's parodying. For fans of Scary Movie-style spoofs who don't mind comedy that swings for the fences and sometimes misses.
If you liked this
Scary Movie 22001
The spiritual predecessor: same directed energy, same willingness to go absurd, same anything-for-a-laugh momentum. If you enjoyed Date Movie's sketch-comedy assault, this one perfected the formula.
But Spoofs age poorly, and this one was already broad. The references feel dated, and the joke ratio means some land hard while others thud.

Not Another Teen Movie2001
Same team, same era, same commitment to the bit. Every scene is a parody of a teen-movie moment, built with genuine affection for the thing it's mocking.
But It's extremely silly and doesn't pretend otherwise. If you want wit over gags, or any kind of restraint, this isn't for you.

The 40 Year-Old Virgin2005
A romantic comedy that respects both the romance and the comedy, with heart underneath. Steve Carell and the ensemble nail it. Smarter than it appears.
But It takes itself more seriously than Date Movie. If you're craving pure parody energy, this grounds itself in actual character and emotion.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping2016
Both are sketch-comedy spoofs that prioritize laughs-per-minute over plot, but Popstar proves the formula still works when the comedy is sharper.
A music-world spoof that updates the playbook. The Lonely Island shows how sketch-comedy films can work when they trust visual gags, musical bits, and genuine absurdism.
But It's weirder and less grounded than Date Movie. If you want recognizable setups being mocked, this goes further into pure invention.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story2007
Another spoof that loves what it's spoofing. This one demolishes music biopics with genuine song chops and narrative precision. Absurd and genuinely clever.
But It's a half-hour too long and drags in the middle. The endless-supply-of-jokes approach sometimes needs editing.

DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story2004
Sports-movie spoof that actually works as a movie, not just a series of parody sketches. The humor is broad but the structure is solid.
But It's less relentlessly silly than Date Movie. If you want maximum chaos per minute, this is actually restrained.

Be Cool2005
A crime-comedy with a similar anything-goes energy. John Travolta and Uma Thurman have fun, and the film knows it doesn't take itself seriously.
But It's genuinely uneven—great moments sit next to confusing ones. The tone shifts make it frustrating rather than fun.

Miss Congeniality2000
A romantic comedy that plays with action-movie tropes. Sandra Bullock is charming, and the film finds humor in the premise without attacking it.
But It's sincere in ways that might feel saccharine if you're in a pure-mockery mood. The romance plays it pretty straight.

Zoolander2001
Fashion-world parody with a character-driven center. Ben Stiller makes an incredibly stupid person somehow sympathetic, and the absurdity builds to something genuinely funny.
But It gets stranger as it goes, and the plot barely holds together. If you need coherence, it won't satisfy.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry2007
Adam Sandler and Kevin James in a broad comedy that swings at everything. Same era, same tone, same commitment to the bit.
But It's often dated and occasionally awkward in its humor. The parody instinct sometimes works against the actual story.

The Deceivers1988
Both dismantle romantic-comedy conventions, but where Date Movie deconstructs through mockery, this one subverts them by playing them earnestly while lying underneath.
A period-romance con-artist film that plays with the same romantic-movie tropes but from inside the con. Visually gorgeous, genuinely clever, and wicked fun.
But It's a straight film, not a parody—slow-burn, serious performances. If you want overt spoofing and sketch energy, this will feel like a different thing entirely.

Cemetery Man1994
Both are genre-film deconstructions that use comedy as their engine, but Cemetery Man uses romance-movie logic to ask impossible questions, while Date Movie uses it to land gags.
An Italian horror-romance that's absurd, tender, and completely uninterested in making sense. Rupert Everett in a graveyard confronting life, death, and love with surreal logic.
But It's genuinely strange, darkly romantic, and philosophically weird. If you're looking for broad jokes and likable characters, this will alienate you completely.
