For anyone who wants their romance loud, sung at full volume, and quietly doomed from the first duet.

But Long, moody, and deliberately artificial-looking — a 70s art-musical rather than a crowd-pleaser, and it drags in the middle.

A warmer, funnier look at rock's mess and glamour, following a teenage journalist on tour with a band about to implode — nostalgia and heartbreak in roughly equal measure.

Asif Kapadia's documentary, built entirely from real footage, tells nearly the exact story Cooper fictionalises — a once-in-a-generation voice consumed by fame, addiction, and a partner who couldn't save her.

But It's real, and it ends the way you already know it ends — there's no fictional distance to soften the grief.

A small-town singer gets discovered and mentored into stardom by a jaded club owner — the exact same fairy-tale discovery engine as Ally's, played completely straight-faced as glittery camp.

But None of the emotional ambition of Cooper's film — this is pure sequins-and-power-ballad comfort food, and it knows it.
