Before Skynet, before Jurassic Park, there was this: Michael Crichton's own theme-park nightmare, where rich guests pay to gunfight, joust, and bed lifelike androids that are guaranteed to lose. Yul Brynner's black-clad gunslinger is the whole show — an expressionless, tireless killing machine years before that idea had a name. Slim, occasionally creaky, but genuinely unnerving once it gets its hooks in.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you love lean, pulpy science fiction where a sun-bleached Western gunfight and a cold, clockwork menace share the same frame, and you don't mind a premise that runs on ideas more than character.

Skip it if you want a slow build or deep interiority, since this moves briskly and its two leads are sketched more than developed, with the robotic villain carrying most of the tension.

What it asks of you: It runs a brisk 89 minutes and asks only for steady attention, with little patience for lingering, and its menace stays cool and tense rather than grimly heavy.

Two years apart, Crichton and Spielberg were chasing the same fear from opposite directions: a faceless, mechanical pursuer with no motive and no mercy, hunting an ordinary man who can't understand why it won't stop. Same nightmare, wildly different costume — Western theme park versus empty American highway.

Ninety minutes of pure, minimal dread: an ordinary commuter is stalked across empty highways by a truck whose driver you never see, and the film never once explains why.

But There's barely a plot beyond the chase and long stretches with almost no dialogue — the ambiguity that makes it eerie will frustrate anyone wanting answers.
