Squeezed
A twenty-minute drama about control, obsession, and the hairline fracture between domestic order and chaos. A man's fixation on small details—an uncapped tube of toothpaste—spirals into something far darker when his wife vanishes. It's a tight, unsettling piece that finds genuine dread in the mundane. For anyone who recognizes themselves in the need for everything in its place.

Under the Skin2014
A slow-burn study of alienation and invisible tension. Like Squeezed, it makes everyday moments feel like warnings. Scarlett Johansson's performance is almost motionless, letting unease accumulate beneath the surface.
But Arthouse pacing will test your patience. Long stretches ask you to sit with dread rather than feel propelled forward.

The Killing2011
Danish noir that understands how domestic routines mask violence. Shows how order and control in a home can hide something rotten. Same claustrophobic intensity, expanded across seasons.
But Slow and procedural. If you need plot momentum, this will feel like being stuck in quicksand.

Nightcrawler2014
Jake Gyllenhaal as a man whose need to control everything becomes psychologically unhinged. The obsession with detail as a window into madness. Squeezed captures that same creeping wrongness in miniature.
But Deeply uncomfortable. This is a portrait of someone you won't like, and it doesn't apologize for it.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Shame2011
Both are studies in men for whom precision and order are ways of keeping something darker at bay. When the control breaks, so does everything else.
Michael Fassbender as a man whose need for control—over his body, his environment, his emotions—is absolute and ultimately destructive. Steve McQueen's long takes make small moments feel unbearable. The architecture of obsession.
But Sexually explicit and relentless. Not punishing for the sake of it, but uncompromising about despair. Not for those seeking redemption.

MINDHUNTER2017
Forensic obsession and the dark psychology of men who need to solve puzzles. The show's fascination with compartmentalization and control. Clinical, methodical, and quietly horrifying.
But Second season loses momentum. The procedural can feel repetitive even for viewers invested in the characters.

Mystic River2003
Three men haunted by their past, unable to let things go. Shows how obsession with justice—or control—can poison everything. That same sense of something irretrievable being lost.
But Bleak and heavy. This is grief and rage without much light. Some will find it punishing rather than cathartic.

Martha Marcy May Marlene2011
A woman unravels after escaping a cult, unable to feel safe in normal spaces. Explores how control—external and internalized—destroys trust. Tense in exactly the way Squeezed is.
But The ambiguity about what's real and what's paranoia might frustrate you. No clean answers, and the ending is deliberately unsettling.

Cure1997
Japanese psychological horror about a detective investigating crimes with no clear motive. Explores the fragility of sanity and the impossibility of control. Methodical and deeply unsettling.
But Slow, hypnotic, and distant. If you need emotional catharsis, you won't find it. The mood is the point.

The Tragedy of Macbeth2021
Joel Coen's adaptation strips Shakespeare to pure power and paranoia. A man's obsession with control through violence. Formally adventurous but rooted in the same psychological territory.
But Extremely stylized and theatrical. Feels like watching a stage play filmed in black and white. Some find it cold rather than gripping.

A Dark Song2016
A woman hires a man to perform an occult ritual. It's really about grief, control, and desperation disguised as supernatural drama. Quiet and strange and genuinely moving.
But Spiritual and meditative rather than driven by plot. Requires patience with ambiguity and slowness.

The Act of Killing2012
Both understand that monstrosity hides in the spaces between ordinary moments. A tube of toothpaste. A man remembering a morning. The everyday is where darkness actually lives.
Documentary that asks mass murderers to reenact their crimes. Utterly unlike Squeezed in form, but shares its obsession with how ordinariness conceals atrocity. The banality of evil made visible and surreal.
But Morally disturbing and formally strange. You're watching people casually describe genocide. This is not entertainment.

The Holy Mountain1973
Both fixate on the precise, ritualistic details of how people try to manage chaos. One is two hours of controlled horror; the other is four hours of beautiful, unconstrained surrealism. Same impulse, opposite approaches.
Jodorowsky's surrealist masterpiece about control, obsession, and ritual. Visually overwhelming and thematically inexplicable, yet utterly hypnotic. If Squeezed were animated by pure fever-dream logic, this is what it might become.
But Completely unhinged. No plot, no answers, images you cannot unsee. For the adventurous only. Most people will find it baffling or repellent.
