Two escaped convicts, one Black and one white, literally chained together and forced to survive as a pair — the mismatched-partnership engine stripped down to its rawest, most serious form.

But No jokes, no rescue-the-day plot — this is a tense, uncomfortable drama about prejudice, not entertainment in the Rush Hour sense.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's insult-comedy chemistry and Michael Bay's boom-and-bang direction give you the same loud, funny, testosterone-fuelled ride.

A polite, old-fashioned Canadian Mountie partnered with a cynical Chicago detective, solving crimes with fish-out-of-water culture clash and genuine warmth across four gentle, funny seasons.

But Slower, softer, and considerably less action-packed — it's TV comfort food, not the adrenaline rush of a Chan set piece.

Same mismatched-partners-thrown-together structure, but the register flips from comic trust to genuine terror, showing how dark the exact same premise gets when you take the jokes out.
