Should you watch it?

Watch it if you enjoy raunchy, cringe-heavy farce where the humiliations are played big and the affection for these hapless boys sneaks in underneath the gags.

Skip it if you find teen sex talk and bodily slapstick wearing thin fast, since the jokes lean hard on crude set pieces and the rhythm is loud and repetitive.

What it asks of you: Expect a brisk ninety-five minutes that rarely pauses, with broad physical comedy and crude talk coming at you before you have settled in.

Every beat of American Pie — the pact, the peeping, the humiliation, the earnest horniness — traces straight back to this scrappy 1981 original. It's the ancestor, not the imitator.

The film that basically invented this whole genre — a scrappy, gleefully crude Florida comedy about horny teenage boys and a legendary locker-room revenge scheme.

But Cruder and far less polished than anything that followed; the humour is broader, meaner, and more dated.

But Subtitled, slower, and unafraid to sit in sadness; this is not a comedy and doesn't pretend to be one.

Big Mouth2017

Same raw material — the terror and comedy of teenage desire — but stretched into a serialized, surreal format that can dig into shame and longing episode after episode instead of packing it into ninety minutes.

An animated series that literalizes puberty as actual hormone monsters shouting encouragement and dread into teenagers' ears — filthier, weirder, and somehow more emotionally honest about the panic of growing up.

But The animation style and constant crudeness aren't for everyone, and its willingness to go anatomically graphic can be a lot.
