Its world is gloriously strange — houses have faces, plants gossip — but the friendship at its center, between a chaotic toucan and an anxious thrush, is achingly real. It's fast, funny, and unexpectedly tender, best for anyone who wants their comfort-watch with genuine emotional stakes.

Same visual DNA — production designer Lisa Hanawalt built both worlds — and the same trick of hiding real grief inside talking-animal gags. If you loved how Tuca & Bertie earns its sad moments, this is the show that taught it how.

But Six seasons is a big commitment, and it gets considerably darker and more punishing than anything Tuca & Bertie ever attempts.

Abbi and Ilana are the flesh-and-blood version of Tuca and Bertie's friendship — one chaotic, one anxious, both fiercely loyal — bumbling through New York with the same manic warmth underneath the mess.

But No animation, no surrealism — if the show's visual weirdness was half the appeal, this trades it for grounded, if still absurd, reality.

Both shows weaponize jokes to dodge grief and trauma until the jokes stop working — Fleabag just does it without feathers, in a single unbroken direct-to-camera stare.

The same alchemy of savage wit and buried pain, following a woman who deflects with jokes until the show finally makes her — and you — sit still with what hurts.

But No animation, no safety net of cartoon absurdity — the vulnerability here is delivered straight to your face, unfiltered.

Big Mouth2017

Another adult cartoon willing to get graphic about anxiety, sex, and shame instead of just gesturing at them, with the same appetite for turning abstract feelings into literal, ridiculous monsters.

But Cruder and broader — it goes for shock and gross-out far more readily than Tuca & Bertie's gentler weirdness.

Undone2019

A rotoscope-animated drama about a woman's mental unraveling that treats emotional reality with the same visual inventiveness Tuca & Bertie applies to feelings — houses and time itself bend to match her inner state.

But It's a mystery-drama, not a comedy — barely any jokes, and a much heavier, more ambiguous story.

But Deliberately uneventful and bleak, with none of the warmth or humor that makes Tuca & Bertie's hard subjects bearable.
