Ore Monogatari!!
- Romantic comedy
- Comedy
- Light-hearted
A romantic comedy about Takeo, a large, genuinely kind man invisible to romance until he saves Yamato from a groper on the train. She's interested in him—actually him—which shocks everyone including himself. It's earnest without being saccharine, funny without being mean, and built on the radical premise that kindness and sincerity are attractive. For anyone who's felt unseen, or who believes in the quiet power of goodness.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you love a big-hearted underdog romance told with gentle slapstick and a lead whose sincerity keeps the jokes landing, the sort of comedy that finds warmth in awkward crushes.
Skip it if you want a fast, plot-driven romance; this one lingers on small social moments and repeated bits of physical comedy, so the pacing can feel leisurely.
What it asks of you: Roughly twenty-five minutes an episode across two dozen episodes, it settles in for the long haul, rewarding steady attention more than binge-speed momentum.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War?2019
Two brilliant people in love play psychological games to make the other confess first. It's hilarious, genuinely clever, and finds romance in the collision of ego and vulnerability. The anime execution is gorgeous.
But The premise wears thin if you're not laughing at the specific comedy. Some find the mind-games exhausting rather than charming.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv9992023
A gamer girl and a gaming genius fall into romance while mired in the daily mess of being human. It's warm, funny, and treats its characters' hobbies and neurodivergence with real respect. Genuinely sweet without being precious.
But The pacing meanders in places. If you want tight plotting over character texture, you'll fidget.

Fruits Basket2019
A kind, observant girl stumbles into a family cursed to transform into zodiac animals. It's got real bite—exploring how trauma repeats—but stays grounded in tenderness and found family. The 2019 reboot is the definitive version.
But It's a long watch spread across three seasons. The early episodes are slower and gentler than what comes later.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Мажор2014
Both centre on a protagonist whose goodness—not conventional attractiveness or status—is their real currency, and both are more interested in the work of building an actual relationship than the thrill of the chase.
A gifted city kid enrolls in an agricultural boarding school and discovers he has no idea who he wants to be. It's warm, funny, and genuinely moving about finding your place and learning to value yourself beyond achievement. Gorgeous character work.
But There's no romance in the traditional sense. It's a coming-of-age story that happens to have kindness and sincerity at its heart. If you're here only for shipping, look elsewhere.

Ouran High School Host Club2006
A working-class girl infiltrates a rich-boys club and disrupts their world just by being genuinely herself. Clever, warm, and full of heart. It understands that the joke isn't on her—it's that everyone else is ridiculous and she knows it.
But The animation is 2006 TV anime. If you need modern visuals, this will feel dated. The tone can be uneven.

Horimiya2021
A popular girl and a pierced delinquent discover they're both hiding their true selves. Sweet, diverse cast, and it actually moves the central romance forward instead of stalling on 'will they.' Good art, good pacing.
But Some find it too comfortable, lacking the edge or conflict that drives tension. It's cosy to a fault.

Say "I Love You".2012
An emotionally guarded girl and an unusually direct boy build a relationship from honesty rather than misunderstanding. It's genuinely tender and rare in how it treats consent and communication as romantic.
But The supporting cast and subplots are thinner than the main story. Some episodes feel slight.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!2012
A girl with delusional disorder and a boy trying to shed his embarrassing past meet in high school. It's funny, visually inventive, and surprisingly moving about shame, connection, and letting someone see you.
But The comedy is weirder and more obtuse than mainstream romance. The plot meanders; season two loses focus.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho A Story that leads to the Antarctica2018
Like *Ore Monogatari*, it believes that sincerity and kindness create chemistry. The 'romance' is connection itself—the miracle of being truly seen and valued by people who choose you.
Four girls with nothing in common except a shared dream—to go to Antarctica—become an inseparable team. It's exuberant, gorgeously animated, and about the romance of friendship and chosen family. Genuinely joyful to watch.
But It's not a romance anime. The emotional centre is friendship and ambition, not attraction. It's also breathlessly earnest in a way that some find saccharine.

March comes in like a lion2016
Both are about damaged people learning—through consistent kindness and genuine regard from another person—that they are worthy of love. Both trust that the everyday work of caring for someone is the deepest drama of all.
A young shogi prodigy, isolated and traumatised, is adopted into a chaotic, loving family and slowly learns to let people in. It's achingly beautiful—visually, narratively—about grief and healing and how relationships save us. Serious and profound.
But It's slow, contemplative, and sometimes bleak. There is romance but it's peripheral. If you want lightness or plot momentum, this will feel deliberately paced.
