Teasing Master Takagi-san
- Comedy
- Romantic comedy
- Light-hearted
- Dip in and out
A gentle romantic comedy about two middle schoolers locked in a daily teasing war. Takagi torments Nishikata with such precision he can never quite catch her off-guard; he plots elaborate revenge that backfire. It's sweet and funny without ever turning mean, animated with warmth and charm. Perfect if you want to feel something like affection watching people who like each other pretend they don't.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War?2019
Two geniuses play psychological games to force the other to confess love first. Sharp, hilarious, and packed with visual gags that land perfectly. The romance is real beneath the comedy, and the stakes escalate beautifully.
But The constant scheming can feel exhausting if you just want straightforward sweetness. Season one's pacing stumbles occasionally.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv9992023
An earnest, genuinely kind romantic comedy about two people who fall in love and actually like each other from the start. It finds comedy in sincerity rather than conflict, with a joyful energy that's infectious.
But The premise is simpler than Takagi-san—less of the back-and-forth verbal sparring you might crave. Some find it saccharine.

Horimiya2021
A couple starts dating immediately, then we watch them navigate school life together with constant teasing and affection intertwined. It's the 'after' story, and it's delightful—funny, warm, full of character detail.
But Without the will-they-won't-they tension, some find it lacks drive. The later episodes coast a little.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Hi Score Girl2018
Both let romance breathe in the gaps between words. Takagi-san teases because words are barriers; High Score Girl removes them entirely. Same warmth through different means.
A boy and a girl who can't speak to each other connect entirely through arcade games and wordless moments. It's romance told almost silently, with the comedy and affection emerging from what they *don't* say. Pure chemistry without dialogue.
But Heavy CGI in a hand-drawn show can jar you out of the mood. It's very specific about its 90s setting and arcade culture.

Toradora!2008
Two people who seem incompatible are forced together and slowly realize they're exactly what the other needs. Enemies-to-lovers done right, with real comedy, real emotion, and a climax that earns its weight.
But It's longer and more melodramatic than Takagi-san. The ending divides fans sharply.

Ore Monogatari!!2015
A boy too large and rough-looking to be wanted finally finds someone who sees him. It's earnest, genuinely moving, and refreshingly upbeat about romance without ever being cynical.
But The sweetness is relentless. If you want edge or conflict, this won't scratch that itch.

Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie2022
A feature-length expansion of the same gentle teasing chemistry you love, with higher animation quality and slightly more emotional stakes. Same warmth, but with room to breathe and deepen.
But If you're already tired of the premise, ninety minutes won't change your mind. It doesn't significantly reinvent the wheel.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia2012
A ghost and a living boy bound together, slowly discovering each other through playful banter and genuine care. Surprisingly tender for a supernatural premise, with chemistry that feels earned.
But The supernatural elements can feel tacked-on. The middle section loses focus a bit.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho A Story that leads to the Antarctica2018
Four girls bond over a shared impossible dream, teasing and supporting each other in equal measure. It captures the texture of real friendship—the jokes, the vulnerability, the growth—with infectious joy.
But It's a group dynamic rather than a romance, so the focus scatters. Adventure anime conventions sometimes overwhelm character moments.

Carole & Tuesday2019
Both understand that the deepest romance is in how two people choose to spend time together. Teasing gives way to witnessing. The everyday becomes sacred.
Two girls meet on Mars and form a songwriting partnership that becomes a love story without ever being framed as one. It's romantic comedy in a completely different register—gorgeous, earnest, and shot through with genuine affection and occasional heartbreak.
But It's sci-fi and musical, so very different aesthetically. The pacing is slower and more meditative. Later episodes lean harder into drama than comedy.

Nana2005
Both are about two people who orbit each other so completely that nobody else quite matters. But where Takagi-san finds that in teasing and light, Nana finds it in obsession and crisis. Same gravitational pull; opposite weather.
Two girls with the same name meet on a train and become each other's whole world. It's an intense, mature exploration of what it means to love someone and need them completely. Raw, real, and devastatingly well-acted.
But It's serious in a way Takagi-san never is—dealing with addiction, betrayal, and real pain. The film ends on an unresolved cliffhanger. Completely different tone.
