Collapse
Other titles called Collapse: the 2012 film.
- Very dark
A taut, fever-dream documentary trapping you in a room with Michael Ruppert, a former LAPD officer convinced that systemic collapse is imminent. Director Chris Smith lets one man's apocalyptic vision unspool without rescue or rebuttal—you're held accountable as a listener. Hypnotic and unsettling, it's for anyone who's wondered whether doomsayers have a point, or whether obsession and clarity are neighbours.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you enjoy a single, unhurried talking-head argument where one fiercely committed man lays out his case and the force of his conviction does most of the work.
Skip it if you want balance, outside experts or a documentary that tests its claims, since this is mostly one man's theory delivered with little counterweight.
What it asks of you: It runs about 82 minutes and sits almost entirely on one speaker, so it asks you to stay with his voice and his urgency rather than be carried by cutting or scenery.
