Television series
Blade: The Series
Blade transitions from the big screen to network TV as an action series set in Detroit. Sticky Fingaz anchors a show that trades cinematic spectacle for serialized storytelling about vampire hunting and uneasy alliances. It's pulpy, sometimes campy, aimed squarely at viewers who want stakes and supernatural bodies in equal measure.

Underworld2003
Kate Beckinsale leads a stylish vampire-versus-werewolf war with the same blend of gothic atmosphere and kinetic action. Shares Blade's love of leather, weaponry, and moral ambiguity between factions.
But The plot is secondary to the aesthetic. If you need a story more than you need cool imagery and fight choreography, it underdelivers.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer1997
Seven seasons of teen-into-adult vampire hunting that invented the template for this whole genre. Tonal range from comedy to genuine horror, with villains you'll actually remember and care about defeating.
But Starts deliberately campy in a way that won't click with everyone. The early seasons move slowly by modern standards.

The Witcher2019
Henry Cavill as a supernatural monster hunter navigating political intrigue and moral grey zones. Episodic monster-of-the-week structure with a larger mythology building underneath, and production values that dwarf Blade.
But First season jumps through timelines confusingly. Requires patience before the plot solidifies.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
La Bête Humaine1938
Both are meditations on dual nature: what it means to be caught between predator and protector, infected by something you can't cure.
Renoir's masterpiece about obsession, violence, and the beast within ordinary people. A dark erotic thriller dressed as realism—same psychological core as Blade's exploration of what happens when human and monster share one body.
But French cinema from 1938. No action, no vampires, deliberately paced. Asks patience for mood over plot.

Constantine2014
Matt Ryan as a chain-smoking occult detective fighting supernatural threats across a gothic America. Shares Blade's appetite for demons, curses, and a hero operating alone against overwhelming darkness.
But Only one season before cancellation. Ends on a cliffhanger with no resolution.

Hellboy2004
Guillermo del Toro's gorgeous, weird take on a half-demon investigator working for a secret government agency. Action, humour, genuine creature design, and a hero who doesn't quite belong anywhere.
But Tonal shifts between comedy and horror can feel jarring. The plot is thinner than the visuals.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker1972
A journalist investigating supernatural phenomena week after week in a world that doesn't believe him. The template for every solo monster-hunter show that followed; influential and oddly addictive.
But Made in the '70s on a TV budget. Looks it. The pacing is glacial by current standards.

Van Helsing2004
Hugh Jackman as a vampire and monster hunter with ridiculous action set pieces and genuine chemistry with his sidekick. It knows exactly how trashy it is and commits fully to the fun.
But The plot is nonsense. The CGI has aged poorly. Earnestness about its own absurdity is not for everyone.

Hannibal2013
A serialized crime procedural with gothic visual language and genuine philosophical weight. Episodes you'll want to rewatch for framing and colour alone. Becomes increasingly its own art form.
But Extremely slow burn. First season is mostly procedural before mythology kicks in. Not action-driven.

Angel1999
Spin-off of Buffy that matures its inherited concepts. A vampire detective in Los Angeles with a stronger commitment to serialization and a genuinely ensemble cast. Tonal sophistication Blade sometimes chases.
But Requires familiarity with Buffy. Shifts tone dramatically between seasons. Takes multiple episodes to find its rhythm.

Midnight Mass2021
Both use vampirism as metaphor for corruption seeping into a community. But Midnight Mass internalizes it—the threat is faith itself, not external monsters.
Mike Flanagan's seven-part miniseries treats vampire mythology as religious horror. Gorgeously shot, theologically serious, brimming with dread. Proves the concept can sustain complex characters and genuine terror.
But Barely an action scene in the season. Builds through atmosphere and dialogue. Much slower and more literary than Blade.

Blade Runner1982
Both follow a solitary, damaged investigator tasked with killing inhuman beings, only to discover the line between hunter and hunted is much blurrier than they thought.
Ridley Scott's philosophical noir about a hunter who questions whether the creatures he kills deserve death. Stunning visual language and a story genuinely about what it costs to be the monster-slayer in a sick world.
But No action for long stretches. Deliberately ambiguous ending. More interested in ideas than spectacle.
