Revisionist western
Revisionist westerns take the myth apart and then sit with the mess. The hero who rides in to save the town is more likely to be a bounty hunter, a soldier doing dirty work, or a settler who has already lost too much, and the violence lands with weight rather than cheer. You come away unsure who the good guys were, which is most of the fun.
