James Franco's Alien literally models himself on Tony Montana — quoting his lines, mimicking his swagger — so Scarface is the trashy, operatic gangster fantasy Spring Breakers is knowingly cosplaying.

Brian De Palma's blood-soaked, coke-fuelled classic is the source code for Alien's whole persona — bigger, dumber, more sincere about its own excess, and endlessly quotable because of it.

But Three hours of straightforward gangster spectacle with none of Korine's irony or dread — pure id, played completely straight.

Michael Bay's fluorescent Florida-set true-crime comedy is just as garish and morally unmoored, following bodybuilders chasing the American dream straight into kidnapping and murder, played disturbingly for laughs.

But Broader and dumber on purpose, swapping Korine's trance for Bay's usual bombast — some will find the tonal whiplash exhausting.

Andrea Arnold follows a crew of magazine-selling teenagers across the Midwest on a hazy, hedonistic road trip that's every bit as intoxicated with youth, freedom, and self-destruction as Korine's Florida.

But Nearly three hours long and loosely plotted; it drifts rather than escalates, which some will find beautiful and others just slow.

Cliff Martinez's synth score does for Los Angeles nights what it later did for Spring Breakers' beaches — cool, hypnotic menace wrapped around a story of violence dressed up as style.

But It's far colder and more minimal; the dreamy pulse is here but the neon chaos and satire are not.

Sean Baker finds the same state's underbelly from a child's eye view — motels instead of mansions, poverty instead of crime, but the same fascination with America's gaudy, broken tourist paradise.

But Tender where Spring Breakers is menacing; if you came for danger and spectacle, this quieter heartbreak might disappoint.

The Safdies again, this time trapping Adam Sandler in a diamond-district fever dream that vibrates with the same anxious, inescapable momentum as Alien's Florida underworld.

But No beach, no girls, no satire — just relentless dread in a jewelry store; a completely different kind of nightmare.

Bonnie and Clyde1967

Spring Breakers is a modern retelling of the beautiful-young-outlaw myth Bonnie and Clyde invented — glamorous crime, media mythmaking, violence as spectacle — six decades earlier and in black-and-white restraint.

Arthur Penn's film basically invented the template Korine remixes: gorgeous young criminals, a nation half in love with their own destruction, violence shot with genuine artistic shock for its era.

But Classical Hollywood pacing and 1967 sensibilities; anyone expecting Korine's hallucinatory chaos will find this comparatively restrained and stately.

This unscripted MTV-produced documentary follows real college kids drinking and hooking up on an actual spring break — the exact hedonistic reality Korine's film mythologizes and distorts into nightmare.

Watch the actual, unfiltered spring break ritual that Korine turned into art — same bodies, same chants, same chaos, minus the artistry and menace, straight reality-TV voyeurism.

But It's cheap, dated, and genuinely dumb early-2000s reality television — no craft, no metaphor, just the thing itself, unflattering and hollow.
