Little Women
Other titles called Little Women: the 1933 film, the 1994 film, the 2019 film.
A 1949 adaptation of Alcott's novel about four sisters navigating love, ambition, and growing up during the Civil War. Gorgeously mounted in Technicolor with a stellar cast, it's romantic and earnest without being saccharine. Perfect for anyone who loves character-driven drama with real emotional stakes and genuinely moving moments about family and becoming yourself.

Pride and Prejudice1940
Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson in a witty, romantic adaptation that shares Little Women's focus on women's agency and wit. It has the same blend of romance and character depth across an ensemble cast.
But The pacing is stately and unhurried; if you need constant plot momentum, this moves at a ballroom waltz tempo.

Jane Eyre1943
Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine in a moody, passionate romance with real darkness. Like Little Women, it's about a woman refusing to shrink herself—but this goes darker, more Gothic, more intense.
But It's far grimmer in tone. There's cruelty and trauma here that Little Women sidesteps.

Squid Game2021
A thoughtful miniseries about growing up and finding yourself that captures the same warmth as this version of Little Women. The emotional beats land genuinely, and the cast feels lived-in and real.
But It's made for television and sometimes shows its seams; the production values don't match a studio film's shine.

Something you would not have found on your own.
The Scarlet Letter1995
Both are about sisters/women finding themselves outside patriarchal structures, but this version makes it dangerous rather than romantic.
A radical reimagining that strips away the Puritan gloom to ask what it means for women to claim agency and sexuality. Like Little Women, it's about women refusing the roles society demands—but Hester doesn't get a soft ending.
But It discards the source material's moral architecture entirely; purists will hate it, and the tonal whiplash is real.

The Sound of Music1965
Family, music, love, and the question of what you owe the people around you. It's earnest and emotional in ways that feel close to Little Women's heart, even in a totally different setting.
But It's very long and very much a musical; if that particular blend isn't for you, the runtime will feel it.

Gigi1958
A young woman coming into her own, gorgeous Technicolor, romance, and a focus on female choice and autonomy. It has the same romantic comedy lightness mixed with real character work.
But It's dated in its gender assumptions in ways that might grate; the politics are 1959, not particularly progressive.

The Egg and I1947
Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray in a warm, funny domestic drama about marriage and partnership. It shares Little Women's belief that love stories matter and deserve real attention.
But The comedy hasn't always aged brilliantly, and the setup—woman adjusts to man's life—feels backward now.

Singin' in the Rain1952
Pure joy. A love story told through dance and music with genuine warmth, humor, and charm. It shares Little Women's fundamental belief that human connection is what makes life worth watching.
But If you can't enjoy a musical spectacle for its own sake, the plot is thin and the characters archetypal.

Roman Holiday1953
Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in a romance about a woman choosing between duty and her own heart. It's tender, romantic, and surprisingly complex about what love means.
But The ending is melancholic in a way that might deflate you if you want your romance triumphant.

Northanger Abbey2007
A spirited adaptation of Austen that's funny and romantic with a young woman at its center who's allowed to be earnest and a little ridiculous. Same DNA as Little Women, with contemporary accessibility.
But As a TV movie it's brief and sometimes rushes its emotional beats; not every scene has room to breathe.

Thelma & Louise1991
Both center female relationships as more important than romance, but this one refuses to let that safety be permanent.
Two women on their own terms, making impossible choices, with genuine tenderness between them. It has Little Women's core belief in female friendship as the most important love story.
But It's violent, bleak, and ends in tragedy. If you want warmth and hope, this will devastate you instead.

Babette's Feast1987
Both are about sisters and the spiritual weight of ordinary life; this one finds the sublime in a single shared meal.
A Danish film about grace, sacrifice, and what we give to people we love. Quiet, deeply moving, about sisters and faith and the quiet power of generosity. It's got Little Women's emotional sincerity and its belief in the everyday as sacred.
But Almost nothing happens. If you need plot or conflict or excitement, you'll find only a long dinner.
