Film
LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman - Rage of Atlantis
- Superhero
- Mythological fantasy
- Light-hearted
A brisk, good-natured LEGO adventure that gives Aquaman the spotlight he deserves. It's colourful slapstick with genuine laughs, fleet-footed action sequences, and the kind of earnest heart these films do so well. Perfect for families who like their DC stories fun rather than brooding.

The Lego Batman Movie2017
Will Arnett's Batman is a comedic masterpiece, and the film balances absurdist humour with surprisingly touching character work. If you loved the tone here, this perfects it.
But Some jokes land harder than others, and the sheer volume of reference humour can feel exhausting if you're not in the mood.

Justice League Action2016
A series built on the same DNA: quick wit, inventive action, and genuine affection for these characters. Episodes fly by, and the ensemble chemistry is excellent throughout.
But It's episodic rather than a sweeping arc, so there's no mounting tension or overarching plot to pull you forward.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash2018
Another LEGO DC film with similar energy and charm, built around a character who gets woefully underused elsewhere. Fast-paced, silly, and surprisingly clever about what makes The Flash tick.
But The plot is thin even by LEGO standards, and if the humour style hasn't grabbed you by now, this won't change your mind.

Something you would not have found on your own.
The Lego Movie2014
Both celebrate LEGO as a medium while telling stories *about* heroes—both ask what it means to believe in something larger than yourself, just in wildly different registers.
A stop-motion prequel miniseries that gives you the origins of The Lego Movie universe with genuine wit and craft. It's clever about the form itself in ways the films only gesture toward.
But Stop-motion takes patience; it's deliberately slow and textural where the LEGO films are snappy. If you want zip, you won't find it here.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse2018
A genuine milestone for animated superhero films. The visual invention is staggering, the writing sharp, and it cares about character as much as spectacle. You'll feel energised.
But It's considerably darker and more formally experimental than this. If you want the same lightness and simplicity, you'll be disappointed.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part2019
Escalates everything the first film did right: the humour cuts deeper, the animation is more imaginative, and it has genuine stakes. Absurdist and surprisingly moving.
But At 107 minutes it outstays the ideal LEGO film runtime. The second half ditches some of the charm for bigger, louder action.

Young Justice2010
Animated DC that starts light but deepens considerably as it goes. The ensemble cast work beautifully together, and it respects its audience's intelligence without losing humour or heart.
But The first season takes a while to find its footing, and if you want pure comedy rather than drama with funny moments, this shifts tone on you.

Shazam!2019
A superhero film that understands fun in the same way these LEGO films do. It's colourful, joke-filled, genuinely warm, and never pretends to be more serious than it is. Infectious joy.
But Some of the humour veers very young, and the balance between silliness and genuine threat doesn't always land smoothly.

DC League of Super-Pets2022
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart anchor an ensemble voice cast in a film that's unapologetically silly and kind-hearted. It's beautifully animated and surprisingly touching about loyalty and found family.
But The plot is genuinely thin, and if anthropomorphic animal comedy doesn't appeal to you, there's not much else holding it together.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Batman Be-Leaguered2014
An earlier, snappier LEGO DC outing with strong voice work and genuinely inventive gags. It moves at a perfect clip and the ensemble dynamic is warm without being cloying.
But The animation is less polished than the newer entries, and the 47-minute runtime means it barely develops any stakes before wrapping up.

Hilda2018
Both are adventure stories about unlikely alliances and learning to respect what's different from you. Hilda just does it with more melancholy and much sharper teeth.
A show about a girl fighting monsters and discovering a hidden magical world. It has the same creature-filled adventure energy, genuine laughs, colour and warmth, but it's animated with real craft and trusts its audience.
But It's considerably darker in mood, especially as it progresses. The humour is drier, and there's real danger that lands differently than LEGO's slapstick safety.

Big Hero 62014
Both centre on misfit teams learning to trust each other, but Big Hero 6 makes the emotional stakes real—it's what this film reaches toward, executed with absolute conviction and animation that takes your breath away.
An animated superhero origin story that's visually gorgeous and narratively perfect. It has all the warmth and ensemble charm, plus action sequences that actually build tension. Genuinely moving without a false note.
But It's a full-throated drama underneath the action, asking you to care deeply about grief and found family. There's no winking at the camera; it means every word.
