Bobby Jasoos

Bobby Jasoos is a playful detective caper centred on an ambitious young woman determined to become Hyderabad's finest investigator. Vidya Balan carries the film with infectious charm as she stumbles through cases in the old city, mixing slapstick comedy with genuine warmth. It's a crowd-pleasing lark that prioritises fun and heart over logic or polish.

Singham2011

Ajay Devgn as an honest cop in a smaller city taking on local corruption. It shares Bobby Jasoos' affection for old-city setting and character-driven action, but plays it straighter and angrier than Balan's breezier take.

But This one actually cares about justice and moral weight. It's a different temperature—earnest where Bobby is winking, which some viewers find exhausting after the comedy wears off.

Queen2014

Kangana Ranaut as a jilted bride finding independence through solo travel. Like Bobby, it celebrates a young woman charting her own course with humour and spirit, defying expectations about what she should want or do.

But Queen is sweeter and more sentimental about self-discovery. Bobby is messier and more interested in the chaos of trying; if you prefer your inspirational journeys tidier, this might feel scattered.

Bunty Aur Babli2005

Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji as con artists pulling elaborate scams across India. Same spirit of affectionate caper comedy, same delight in the small victories and misadventures of outsider characters.

But It's a caper first and character study second. If you're watching for Vidya Balan's grounded likeability, this is broader and more concerned with plot mechanics than personality.

Something you would not have found on your own.

Heroine2012

Both centre women fighting for professional legitimacy in their chosen field, but Heroine asks what ambition actually costs you—a darker reflection of Bobby's sunnier version of the same story.

Madhur Bhandarkar's savage comedy-drama about a Bollywood actress destroying her own career through ambition and self-deception. Same old-city Mumbai setting, same focus on a woman with drive, but this one is bitterly intelligent about the costs of wanting things.

But The tone is venomous where Bobby is warm. If you came for lighthearted fun, this will feel like being slapped. It's also critically brutal about the film industry itself.

Chennai Express2013

Shah Rukh Khan stumbling into adventure on a train to the South. Another film that mistakes enthusiasm for plotting, yet commits so fully to its own ridiculousness that it becomes oddly endearing.

But This is where I'd be lying if I didn't say the humour is broader and often painfully strained. You have to actively enjoy the actor's charm to get through it.

Khosla Ka Ghosla!2006

A middle-class family stands up to a property developer in Delhi. Like Bobby, it finds genuine warmth and humour in everyday people outsmarting their circumstances, rooting for the underdog with real affection.

But It's quieter and more grounded in actual consequence. No cartoonish fun—this one expects you to care about bureaucracy and fairness, which changes the mood entirely.

Singh Is Kinng2008

Akshay Kumar as a Sikh cop in London stumbling through cases with infectious good humour. Same tone of comedy-action where the lead's likability matters more than the plot making sense.

But The cultural comedy occasionally lands poorly and feels dated. It's broader than Bobby and sometimes at the expense of taste, which hasn't aged well.
