How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)

A German comedy-drama about a socially awkward teenager who accidentally becomes a major dark web drug dealer. It's funny, tense, and genuinely smart about how quickly good intentions curdle into genuine criminality. Made for people who loved Breaking Bad's moral descent but want something lighter and more absurdist—with better pacing and actual stakes.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you enjoy coming-of-age comedies with a sweet, awkward hero whose small scheme spirals, and you're happy for the crime plot to be played for laughs.

Skip it if you want gritty, tightly plotted crime drama, because this is looser and goofier than its premise suggests, and its teen romance can drag over four seasons.

What it asks of you: Episodes run about 33 minutes, 24 of them across four seasons, and it asks you to follow a lot of hustling and romantic scheming without taking it too seriously.

Breaking Bad2008

The obvious comparison: both follow an ordinary person's transformation into a criminal through a series of escalating choices. But where Walter White is driven by ego and pride, Moritz stumbles forward almost by accident, which somehow makes it more tragic.

But It's a five-season commitment and sometimes slow; if you want the dopamine hit of watching a drug operation succeed, you'll find the psychological dread more rewarding.

Ozark2017

Family drama meets crime thriller. Like Drugs Online, it's about ordinary people getting in way over their heads, and the real cost isn't just legal—it's the slow erosion of who they thought they were.

But Genuinely bleak in places, and the later seasons get convoluted. It's also much longer; Drugs Online's brevity is part of its charm.

Peaky Blinders2013

Stylish, kinetic crime drama with a young protagonist learning the business from scratch. The show moves like a thriller even in quieter moments, and the period setting gives it visual texture that's just gorgeous.

But The dialogue is densely written and the accents thick; you need to pay attention, and the plot can feel opaque until you're several episodes in.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Requiem for a Dream2000

Both are unflinching about how addiction starts small and how quickly it hollows you out. But Drugs Online is a comedy watching the criminal process accelerate; Requiem is a tragedy watching the person disappear.

A film about four people descending into addiction—drugs, amphetamines, food, television. It's horrifying and hypnotic, shot like a fever dream. Aronofsky never lets you look away from the human cost.

But It's genuinely difficult to watch. Not entertaining in any conventional sense; it's a stylistic assault designed to make you feel the numbness and desperation.

MINDHUNTER2017

Meticulous, tense, and oddly intimate. It's about pattern-recognition and the psychology of criminal behavior, with the same deadpan humor and slow-burn dread that makes Drugs Online work.

But Deliberately paced and cerebral; there's no action, and the second season loses momentum. Also unresolved, which some people find maddening.

Godless2017

A Western where the town is run by women and a young drifter gets caught up in criminal enterprise. It's got that same mix of comedy and genuine danger, and the moral questions are never simple.

But Only one season, and the ending divides people sharply. If you want closure, you won't get it.

Narcos2015

The definitive drug-dealing show. It's a masterclass in tension and scope—watching Escobar build an empire is compulsive viewing, and the geography and politics make it feel consequential.

But Graphically violent and deeply dark. It's also very long, and some seasons rely more on real-history knowledge than narrative tension.

The Diplomat2023

Keri Russell navigating impossible political waters with dark humor and genuine vulnerability. It's funny without being silly, high-stakes without being exhausting. Pure craft.

But The plot sometimes takes backseat to character dynamics; if you need propulsive plot, you might feel it's meandering.

Bodyguard2018

Six episodes of pure tension. A protection officer becomes entangled in a political conspiracy, and every episode ends with a twist that recontextualizes everything. Incredibly well-made.

But The ending is divisive and some feel rushed. Also quite dark and violent for its runtime.

Community2009

Both center on outsider characters finding community in unexpected places and discovering they're more capable (and dangerous) than they thought. But where Drugs Online is about corruption, Community is about found belonging—the inverse trajectory.

A study group becomes a found family and each character slowly reveals depths you didn't expect. It's hilarious, weird, genuinely moving, and structured like a video game in the best way.

But The humor is specific and meta; if you don't click with it by episode three, you probably won't. Also gets increasingly surreal and loses some viewers.

Gomorra: La Serie2014

Both trace the machinery of drug dealing from the street level, but Gomorrah is anchored in specific cultural and historical reality while Drugs Online is almost absurdist—the same subject from opposite angles.

A Naples-set crime epic about the Camorra underworld. It's visually stunning, morally complex, and treats its characters—criminals, police, families—with unflinching humanity. Genuinely great television.

But In Italian with subtitles; bleak, violent, and slow-building. The narrative is fractured and sometimes obscure. It's demanding and never gives you an easy emotional landing.
