Geordie Shore
A pack of tanned, gym-honed twentysomethings live together in a Newcastle house, get spectacularly drunk, sleep with each other, fall out, make up, and repeat, all narrated in thick Geordie slang over neon nightclub lighting. It's Britain's answer to Jersey Shore: loud, silly, occasionally moving, and completely unbothered by dignity. Watch it for chaos, not insight.

The American original this whole format is copying — same house, same hot tub arguments, same fist-pumping devotion to a good night out, just louder and with GTL instead of gym-tan-laugh-in-Geordie.
But The accents and slang barrier that made Geordie Shore need subtitles doesn't exist here, but the format now feels dated and copied a hundred times since.

Britain's other great regional soap-reality hybrid, all fake tan, nightclub drama and Essex vowels, proving Geordie Shore wasn't the only county turning its young people into a national soap opera.
But It's softer and more scripted-feeling than Geordie Shore, with less genuine chaos and more staged relationship storylines.

Same reality-soap engine, completely different postcode — poshos in blazers backstabbing over cocktails instead of shots, which makes for a funny contrast in class and consequence.
But The posh drawl and old-money smugness can grate if you came for Geordie Shore's rawer, more working-class energy.

An American Family1973
It's the actual ancestor of everything Geordie Shore does — cameras turned on ordinary lives until the drama becomes unbearably real, just decades before anyone thought to add nightclubs.
Long before anyone filmed strangers in a house, PBS filmed an actual Californian family falling apart over seven months — no cast, no producers pushing storylines, just a marriage genuinely ending on camera.
But It's slow, formal, black-and-white-television-paced, and completely without the fun — this is reality TV as sober tragedy, not party.

Takes the same ingredients — young, gorgeous, drunk on feelings if not always alcohol — and puts them in a villa with a countdown clock, turning romance itself into the sport.
But It's more calculated and produced, with challenges and voting, so it lacks Geordie Shore's genuinely feral, unscripted mess.

Built by some of the same production minds, it takes the Geordie Shore formula and adds a twist: everyone's exes keep turning up to ruin their holiday, which is somehow even more entertaining.
But The premise is a gimmick that can feel repetitive once you've clocked the twist a few seasons in.

MTV's Welsh cousin to Geordie Shore, following young Valleys locals moving to Cardiff for fame and mayhem — rowdier, rougher round the edges, and criminally underwatched.
But It only ran for two series and never built the cult following Geordie Shore did, so the cast chemistry never fully clicks.

Different premise but the same pleasure: watching people's masks slip when they're cooped up together with nothing to do but drink, bicker and perform for the cameras.
But It's slower paced and less overtly sexual, built more on tension and boredom than the constant party of Geordie Shore.

The granddaddy of British house-based reality television — strangers, cameras, no escape — and the format Geordie Shore ultimately descends from, minus the fake tan.
But It's a much more sedate, format-driven show with tasks and evictions rather than nightly benders.

The original cast, older, slightly wiser, still absolutely unable to behave themselves — a satisfying look at what happens when reality stars actually grow up a bit but not entirely.
But Nostalgia carries a lot of the appeal, so it lands softer if you never watched the original run.
The Likely Lads1964
Same Newcastle, same pubs, same mateship-and-women engine — just proof this city's been telling this exact story about its young people for sixty years, only with scripts and manners.
A scripted sitcom about two Newcastle lads chasing girls, pints and each other's approval, written with the same laddish warmth and city pride Geordie Shore trades on, just funnier and gentler.
But It's black-and-white, mannered, and gentle where Geordie Shore is feral — there's no shouting, no fights, no fake tan in sight.

Strip away the tan, the club nights and the producers' storylines and this is the harder version of the same working-class Britain Geordie Shore is built on top of.
A documentary following unemployed families in a struggling English town, filmed with the same fly-on-the-wall intimacy but none of the editing tricks — this is the economic reality underneath the party footage.
But It's genuinely bleak, offers no release valve of comedy or spectacle, and will sit heavily rather than entertain.
