Television series
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation
Jersey Shore's original cast reunites for boozy Miami vacations, older and fractionally more self-aware. It's comfort television for people who loved the original—familiar chaos, familiar faces, now with genuine affection underneath the manufactured drama. Messy, knowing, sometimes touching.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills2010
Established the template for ensemble reality TV: manufactured drama, genuine friendships, beautiful people in expensive settings behaving badly on camera. Endlessly rewatchable.
But Seasons drag on interminably, and the cast has cycled so much that newer entries feel like fan fiction of the original.

MTV Floribama Shore2017
MTV's spiritual successor to Jersey Shore. Young people from different regions, one beach house, predictable explosions and genuine bonding. The formula still works because the formula *works*.
But It's essentially the same show with different faces, which is either comforting or exhausting depending on your tolerance for repetition.

Winter House2021
Summer House cast in Vermont winter mode. Less beach vapidity, more boozy cabin-fever psychology. Sharper feuds because there's nowhere to escape.
But Requires familiarity with Summer House to fully invest in the interpersonal dynamics that drive the drama.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Skins2007
Both centre on ensemble casts where the friendship is more durable than any individual plot point; both understand that mess and love coexist.
British ensemble drama about chaotic young people bonding through disaster. Shares Jersey Shore's energy—messy, affectionate, genuinely moving underneath the party atmosphere—but filtered through serious storytelling and real consequences.
But Deals with genuine trauma, addiction, and death; the show does not offer the comfort food version of chaos, it offers the real kind.

Love Island2019
Dating show as social experiment and entertainment mechanism. Couples form and dissolve rapidly; watching people navigate attraction and ego in real-time is weirdly addictive.
But Some seasons are stronger than others, and the formula exhausts itself if you binge too many installments at once.

The Hills2006
The OG Los Angeles ensemble drama that proved young people's messy lives could sustain an entire network. Feels like watching the template being invented in real time.
But Early 2000s sensibilities and production aesthetics may feel dated; some cast members' behaviour has aged very badly.

Made in Chelsea2011
British answer to reality TV excess. Posh Londoners in dramatic scenarios, but with more eloquent insults and better tailoring. Genuinely funny, never takes itself seriously.
But Very insular universe; if you don't know London's west side social structure, some references will pass you by.

Vanderpump Rules2013
Bar staff drama elevated into operatic feuds. Lisa Vanderpump presiding over a cast of beautiful people with poor impulse control creates genuine character development over seasons.
But Recent seasons have become overshadowed by cast members' controversies, and the show struggles with its own moral reckoning.

Married... with Children1987
Family sitcom as counterculture: ugly house, bad parents, genuine affection underneath deliberate dysfunction. Proof that formulaic television can have real charm.
But Loud, obvious humour; some jokes have not aged well; almost aggressively silly in ways modern television has moved past.

Girls2012
Both are about groups of friends whose dysfunction is inseparable from their love for each other; both argue that growing up doesn't mean straightening out.
Lena Dunham's New York ensemble comedy-drama about messy twentysomethings figuring out adulthood. Like Jersey Shore in that it's about people behaving badly and knowing it, but weaponises self-awareness and creates genuine character arcs.
But Deliberately unglamorous; the cringe is intentional; if you want to feel good watching beautiful people, this is the opposite.

Workaholics2011
Both celebrate friendship as the engine of the show, not drama or romance; both have genuine affection underneath the stupidity.
Comedy series about three men in dead-end jobs and their friendship-based chaos. Ridiculous, stupid, weirdly touching. Understands that the friendship is the story, not the plot.
But Absurdist humour may feel scattershot; the show doesn't have narrative ambitions, so some viewers find it empty.
