The Good, the Bart, and the Loki

A six-minute animated crossover where Loki crashes into Springfield and teams with Bart Simpson. It's a gleeful, hyperactive collision of two universes that works as both MCU fan service and Simpsons irreverence—lightweight, silly, made for people who love both franchises and aren't precious about either.

Should you watch it?

Watch it if you grew up on Simpsons gags and Marvel jokes and enjoy seeing two very different comic universes collide with a knowing wink at each other.

Skip it if you want a story that builds, since this is a six-minute short that leans on quick crossover jokes rather than anything with real momentum or depth.

What it asks of you: Very little: it runs about six minutes, moves at a brisk cartoon clip, and asks only that you already know a bit about both franchises to catch the references.

Thor: Ragnarok2017

Tom Hiddleston's Loki steals every scene with comedic timing that proved the character could anchor a story. The film's absurdist humor and vibrant visuals match the tonal energy of this crossover perfectly.

But If you want Loki as a genuine threat rather than a scene-stealing prankster, this softens him considerably. Some find the MCU's quip-heavy style exhausting.

What If...?2021

An MCU animated anthology that revels in multiverse chaos and unexpected character pairings. It proves Marvel's willingness to play fast and loose with canon, just like this Simpsons team-up does.

But Uneven quality across episodes. Some are brilliant; others feel like rejected screenplays. Also quite short—most episodes leave you wanting more.

The Simpsons Movie2007

Proof that The Simpsons could carry a feature-length story while maintaining the show's anarchic spirit. It has the same cheerful disregard for logic and consequence that makes this crossover sing.

But It's nearly twenty years old and the show was already stale by then for many viewers. The plot meanders between setpieces rather than building momentum.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Adventure Time: Distant Lands2020

Both balance anarchic comedy with surprising emotional depth, and both prove that animation isn't bound by the rules that constrain live-action franchises.

A cartoon that starts as silly nonsense and gradually reveals itself as genuinely profound—the same tonal DNA as The Simpsons crossed with the absurdist energy of this Loki short. Seasons 2-5 are essential.

But It's a 10-season commitment with pacing issues in the middle. The early seasons are almost aggressively dumb in ways that alienate newcomers before the show's genius emerges.

Loki2021

The Disney+ series that made Loki the MCU's most fascinating character. It's smart, unexpectedly emotional, and proves there's real depth beneath the mischief-maker persona.

But Slow-burn television plotting that demands patience. If you want action and jokes rather than introspection, the first two episodes may test you.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse2018

A multiverse romp with spectacular animation and genuine heart. It shows how animated superhero films can outshine live-action ones through pure creativity and visual ambition.

But The constant pop-up text and visual noise exhausts some viewers. Also very young-skewing, which can feel limiting if you're looking for adult-oriented humor.

I Am Groot2022

A collection of micro-shorts starring Groot that nail the absurdist comedy formula. Like this crossover, it's hypercompressed fun that respects your time and delivers immediate charm.

But At 5-7 minutes each, these are snack-sized to the point of feeling insubstantial. If you want genuine story stakes, look elsewhere.

The Avengers2012

The MCU's first massive team-up, structured around Loki as villain and Hiddleston's performance. It's the moment the franchise became a genuine phenomenon, and it's still tremendously fun.

But Dated CGI and a simplistic plot. For all its influence, it's been superseded by nearly every MCU film that followed. Also nearly two and a half hours of setup.

Superman: Red Son2020

A DC animated feature that uses the crossover format to explore serious ideas through genre play. Proves that short-form animation can tackle unexpected tonal territory while staying entertaining.

But The premise (Soviet Superman) is more intellectually interesting than the execution delivers. Some find the animation style stiff and uninviting compared to Marvel productions.

Harley Quinn2019

Both understand that licensed characters can be played with, reinvented, and deepened rather than just replayed. Both trust the audience to handle tonal whiplash as a feature, not a bug.

An adult animated series about a DC villain that's irreverent, crude, deeply character-driven, and endlessly inventive. It does what this crossover does—collides licensed properties with genuine creative ambition—but for grown-ups.

But Aggressively crude and sexual. It's also DC, not Marvel, so none of the familiar faces. If you want family-friendly content, this is the opposite direction entirely.
