Jism 2

A provocative Bollywood thriller that uses its sex-worker protagonist not as decoration but as an active agent in a cat-and-mouse game between intelligence services and an assassin. It's pulpy, unafraid of its own sensationalism, and wants to provoke thought about complicity and survival alongside the spectacle. For viewers who trust directors willing to be trashy in service of something.

Raees2017

Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Sidiqui in a crime thriller about a coal smuggler that moves with real propulsion. The cat-and-mouse dynamic between criminal and cop mirrors Jism 2's central tension, with equally assured filmmaking.

But It's a conventional Bollywood action vehicle wrapped in prestige; if you want something less interested in star power, this won't satisfy.

Badlapur2015

Varun Dhawan in a revenge thriller that's genuinely grimy and morally murky, refusing to let you feel clean while watching it. The same willingness to drag its protagonist—and us—through moral compromise.

But It's bleak and sexual in ways mainstream Hindi cinema usually avoids; that intensity will exhaust some viewers.

Rang De Basanti2006

Aamir Khan and an ensemble cast in a film about moral awakening and political action. Like Jism 2, it trusts its audience to grapple with characters who make difficult choices for reasons that matter.

But Its idealism might feel dated; the film genuinely believes in redemption in ways a 2012 thriller doesn't.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Chandni Bar2001

Both make their female lead's sexual history and present not a moral question for the audience to judge, but a material fact of survival within systems that have already decided her value.

Madhuri Dixit in a brutal film about a bar dancer's survival in Mumbai's underworld. Like Jism 2, it centers a sex worker as a thinking, strategizing human—but where Jism 2 is a thriller, this is social realism. Unsparing.

But It's genuinely difficult to watch; the exploitation depicted is filmed without glamor, and many will find that depiction itself uncomfortable.

Kahaani2012

Vidya Balan as a pregnant woman on a mission through Kolkata. A thriller where the female protagonist's agency is total, and the city itself becomes a character—similar structural confidence to Jism 2.

But It's more mystery-box than character study; if you want psychological depth, look elsewhere.

Natrang2010

A Marathi film about a theater actor's obsession and moral decay. Features a protagonist whose hunger and compromises spiral in ways that echo Izna's journey, with equal artistry and unflinching observation.

But It's in Marathi; if subtitles fatigue you, and if you expect Bollywood pacing, you'll be frustrated by its deliberation.

Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 12012

Released the same year as Jism 2, this sprawling crime epic also refuses moral simplicity. Its characters survive by making impossible choices; it's operatic where Jism 2 is pulpy, but the DNA is there.

But At nearly four hours across two films, it demands patience and attention. Not a casual watch.

Jai Bhim2021

A Tamil thriller about a lawyer fighting injustice. It shares Jism 2's refusal to simplify its moral questions, asking what survival and complicity mean in systems designed to crush you.

But It's heavy—based on true injustice, it never lets you comfortable. Some will find it too angry.

Ugly2013

Anurag Kashyap's dark examination of a missing child case that exposes the ugliness in everyone. Like Jism 2, it doesn't flinch from how desperation and self-interest corrupt people we might otherwise empathize with.

But The ugliness is relentless; there's no catharsis, and some viewers will feel punished by that.

Gulaal2009

An ambitious political thriller about a student swept into college violence and espionage. Shares Jism 2's interest in how ordinary people become pawns in larger games, with style and verve.

But It's baroque and sometimes confusing; the plot tangles in ways that frustrate rather than intrigue some viewers.

A Prophet2009

Both films center on a protagonist making themselves indispensable to more powerful people by understanding their vulnerabilities—survival through strategic intimacy and information.

French prison thriller where a young man must navigate between warring factions. The intelligence and paranoia required mirror Izna's position—caught between dangerous men, learning to manipulate to survive, with every alliance a potential trap.

But It's austere and French; if you want Bollywood's energy and music, this methodical European approach will feel glacial.

Memories of Murder2003

Both trap their protagonists in systems larger than themselves, where doing the right thing and surviving often require choosing between impossible options, and neither offers easy answers about which is which.

Bong Joon-ho's Korean masterpiece about cops hunting a serial killer in the 1980s. A procedural that's also a character study of obsession and moral compromise. The paranoia and question of whom to trust mirrors Jism 2's spy-game structure.

But It's 130 minutes of mounting dread with an ambiguous ending; optimists and plot-resolution seekers will leave frustrated.
