Indra
Indra is a Telugu action-drama about a man caught between two feuding families locked in a battle over water rights. It's a three-hour spectacle built on the collision of rural honour codes and romantic idealism, anchored by Chiranjeevi's star power. Expect big action sequences, melodrama, and a hero convinced he can solve everything through sheer force of will.

Dabangg2010
A Salman Khan vehicle with similar DNA: a charismatic lead playing a man who bends the rules to protect the powerless, anchored by action sequences and a competing romantic triangle that actually matters to the plot.
But The second half veers into sentimentality that some find manipulative, and the hero's methods are presented as righteous in ways that don't hold up to scrutiny.

Khuda Haafiz2020
A more recent Hindi action-drama where the protagonist's quest—recovering his wife from traffickers—carries genuine stakes. It has the same earnest belief in one man's ability to change systems through determination and violence.
But It's darker and more grim than Indra; there's no cathartic fantasy element to soften the brutality of what the hero must do.

Mirchi2013
Prabhas leads a rivalry-between-families drama with action and romance, built on the same assumption that a good man can charm his way past structural problems. It's got genuine spectacle.
But Three-hour runtime for a plot that would sustain ninety minutes. There's filler that feels like filler, not diversion.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Pather Panchali1955
Both are rooted in rural economic desperation. Indra tries to solve it through heroism; Ray shows that some problems have no solution, only endurance.
Satyajit Ray's Calcutta drama about a family struggling over scarce resources—in this case, food and shelter rather than water rights. It asks the same question as Indra: what does a man owe his family in a world that gives them nothing?
But Glacially paced by modern standards, in black-and-white, with dialogue you'll need to work to follow. It's lyrical where Indra is propulsive.

Bāhubali: The Beginning2015
Telugu action-cinema evolved, but the core impulse—a noble man fighting to reconcile divided worlds—remains. The production scale is immense, the action genuinely inventive, and it actually earns its runtime.
But It's a franchise-starter, so closure is denied deliberately. You're signing up for mythology that demands sequels.

Jai Bhim2021
A Tamil film with a protagonist trying to use individual moral force to fight a rigged system. It has Indra's earnestness, but focuses on institutional injustice rather than family honour.
But It's based on real events and deals with caste violence. The darkness is intentional and unrelenting. No fantasy resolution softens it.

Padayottam1982
Another Chiranjeevi film where he plays a man mediating between warring communities. Thematically aligned and from the same actor, directed with confidence in the material.
But The plot mechanics can feel creaky. You're watching more for Chiranjeevi's presence than for surprises in the story.

Villain2017
A Kannada thriller that reverses the hero-mediator formula: a man born into violence trying to escape it. It has the same regional specificity and action language as Indra.
But It's slower-burn and far more nihilistic. If you loved Indra's hopefulness, this will feel bleak and punishing.

The Water Diviner2014
Both hinge on a man's refusal to accept that some rifts cannot be healed. One film thinks that's noble; the other wonders if it's a form of blindness.
An Australian film (in English) about a man who crosses into a hostile nation after WWI to find his sons. Like Indra, it's about an individual traversing impossible divides through sheer will and honour. Russell Crowe grounds it in genuine emotion.
But It's a Western melodrama, not a Telugu action film. The spectacle is internal; you're watching someone process grief, not sequences designed to impress.
