Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings the Spengler kids into the firehouse to work alongside the original crew, blending legacy nostalgia with fresh energy. It's a fun, effects-driven adventure that doesn't take itself seriously and clearly loves the universe it inhabits. For anyone who wants to see the originals again or introduce kids to the franchise without cynicism.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife2021
Direct predecessor that introduces the Spengler family and rebuilds the mythology with genuine heart. Sets up everything Frozen Empire expands on, with excellent performances and real emotional stakes beneath the comedy.
But If you hated the nostalgia-heavy approach, this leans into it even harder. Some find it overly reverential to the original films.

The Mummy1999
Similar energy: adventure-comedy that doesn't apologize for spectacle, with a charming lead, supernatural stakes, and ensemble chemistry. Brendan Fraser's enthusiasm mirrors the spirit here.
But Tone shifts wildly between comedy and genuine peril. If you need consistency, the whiplash gets exhausting.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle2017
Team assembled, game with stakes, effects-heavy fun that respects its source while being unafraid to be silly. Dwayne Johnson brings the same infectious energy Paul Rudd brings here.
But Relies heavily on action sequences and one-liners. If you prefer quieter storytelling, it's relentless.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice2024
Both are legacy sequels released in 2024 that centre grieving families learning to live with supernatural inheritance. One chooses optimism, one chooses darkness.
Tim Burton's sequel arrives the same year with Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton back, exploring grief and family legacy through supernatural chaos. Both films grapple with generational trauma through spectacle, but this one leans into melancholy where Frozen Empire keeps things bright.
But Burton's aesthetic is inimitable and divisive—if his particular brand of gothic whimsy doesn't grab you, it never will. The plot is deliberately chaotic.

The Adam Project2022
Ryan Reynolds and a young co-star in a time-travel adventure with real emotional core about fatherhood. Balances humour and heart in the same register Frozen Empire attempts.
But The emotional plot can feel manipulative. Some plot holes emerge on reflection that the pacing glosses over.

Chasing Mummies2010
Adventure-documentary hybrid about actual archaeologists hunting ancient artifacts. If you liked the artifact-unleashes-evil setup, this explores the real obsession that drives such quests.
But It's a documentary, not narrative fiction. Pacing is slow and you get no cathartic third act.

Night at the Museum2006
Magic reanimates inanimate objects in an iconic New York building. Ben Stiller anchors ensemble comedy with surprisingly tender moments about legacy and growing up.
But Feels dated now. The comedy relies on slapstick that hasn't aged well and some jokes land poorly.

Supernatural2005
Fifteen seasons of brothers hunting monsters with genuine character development. If Frozen Empire's world interests you, this explores it with far more depth and darkness.
But Commitment is massive. Tone is inconsistent across seasons and some arcs outstay their welcome badly.

Monster House2006
Kids confronting a supernatural threat in their neighbourhood with mo-cap animation that still looks distinctive. Genuinely creepy beneath the family-film coating.
But The animation style alienates some viewers. It's darker than Ghostbusters, which can feel tonal whiplash.

The Librarians2014
Ensemble adventure where ordinary people protect magical artifacts in a secret institution. High concept, low stakes in the best way—just pure entertainment without pretension.
But Deliberately lightweight and self-aware to a fault. If you need grounded stakes, the winking gets exhausting.

The Ice Pirates1984
Both films centre around ice as a catastrophic element and build ensemble adventure from a core conceit treated seriously despite being inherently silly. Same DNA, forty years apart.
Obscure space-comedy where rogues steal frozen water in a far future. Pure pulp adventure that commits completely to its absurdist premise without winking, with practical effects and genuine stunts. Same anarchic energy as Frozen Empire but from an era that didn't self-explain jokes.
But It's genuinely weird and paced oddly. The special effects are intentionally lo-fi in ways that look cheap rather than retro to modern eyes. You have to lean in.
