Flock of Dudes
- Buddy comedy
- Light-hearted
A 30-something man tries to break up with his group of perpetually immature best friends to finally become an adult. It's a gentle, character-driven comedy about the friction between loyalty and growth, where everyone involved is likeable enough that you genuinely care about whether the friendship survives. For people who've felt the pull between who they were and who they're becoming.

I Love You, Man2009
A similar story about a man navigating friendship, romance, and adulthood, but with genuine warmth and a willingness to let its characters be silly without punishing them for it. Smart without being mean.
But The romantic subplot occasionally overtakes the friendship story, and some of the humour lands softly enough that it might not register as funny at all.

Old School2003
The spiritual ancestor of films about grown men refusing to grow up. Anarchic, cheerful, and surprisingly affectionate about its characters' refusal to accept their own mortality.
But Much broader and crueler than Flock of Dudes. If you want something gentler, this might feel like being shouted at for ninety minutes.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall2008
A comedy about a man finding his footing after his old life implodes, with a cast of genuinely funny characters and the same balance of sentiment and goofiness that makes Flock of Dudes work.
But It's a romantic comedy first, which means relationship drama occasionally overwhelms character comedy. Some people find that tedious.

Something you would not have found on your own.
The Fundamentals of Caring2016
Both understand that growing up doesn't mean abandoning joy—it means learning who deserves to share it with you.
A grumpy middle-aged man and an optimistic young guy on a road trip, learning to care about someone else. A comedy that earns its heart, powered by the chemistry between two people discovering they're not as broken as they thought.
But The illness at the film's centre is real, and the film doesn't soft-pedal it. Some people can't watch a sick-kid story, even when it's fundamentally hopeful.

The Hangover2009
Four men on the verge of life changes, bound by friendship and history. Explosive and absurd, but underpinned by genuine affection for these characters and what they mean to each other.
But Much more heavily engineered than Flock of Dudes—every beat is designed to land hard. If you prefer subtlety, this will feel exhausting.

Superbad2007
Two best friends at a crossroads, terrified that growing up means losing each other. Funny, touching, and genuinely about the thing Flock of Dudes is about, just from a younger angle.
But Aggressively focused on adolescent male sexuality. If you're looking for something less preoccupied with getting laid, look elsewhere.

Wedding Crashers2005
Two friends coasting on their chemistry, forced to confront what they actually want from life. Silly and affectionate in equal measure, with a real emotional spine underneath the pranks.
But Tries to be both a broad comedy and a romantic film, and those two modes clash. The tonal whiplash is the whole problem some people have with it.

The Internship2013
Two older men trying to find their place in a world that's moved on without them. Earnest about its characters' desire to matter and not be discarded, which gives the comedy real stakes.
But More promotional than story in places, and the sentiment occasionally curdles into something maudlin. Not everyone can forgive that.

DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story2004
A bunch of ordinary guys trying to prove they're still capable of something, with a kindness underneath the absurdity. Ben Stiller is genuinely funny playing against type as the villain.
But The plot is tissue-thin and exists only to hang jokes on. If you need a real story, this will feel like a sketch that went on too long.

Tropic Thunder2008
A comedy about a group of men with incompatible egos forced to work together. Sharper and more ambitious than most of its peers, with satire that actually cuts.
But Aggressively mean-spirited and overstuffed. Some people find the tone exhausting, and the satire occasionally gets lost in the chaos.

Good Dick2008
Both are about people taking real emotional risks and admitting that staying safe isn't the same as staying alive.
A deadpan comedy about a video store clerk pursuing a woman who's given up on connection. Strange, specific, genuinely funny, and built on the premise that persistence and genuine curiosity can be attractive. Indie cinema with real humor and strangeness.
But It's aggressively quirky in a way that can read as affected rather than charming. Also very slow, and the whole film hinges on whether you buy one unusual relationship dynamic.
