Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, in a wickedly funny Hitchcock-adjacent romance-thriller about a woman who can't tell if the charming man protecting her is exactly what he seems. It did this plot first, and better, with actual wit.

But Its dialogue-driven, old-Hollywood pacing won't deliver the modern heat or visual polish you might expect.

A wealthy Manhattan tower, a mysterious man, a woman drawn in against her better judgment — this 90s erotic thriller has the same seductive-but-suspicious energy, just with more voyeurism.

Same central mechanism — a kidnapping that reshapes everyone around it — but stripped of romance entirely and played dead serious. Jackman and Gyllenhaal anchor a bleak, morally exhausting thriller about what desperation does to good people.
