Television series
Transformers: Prime
Transformers: Prime is a CG-animated action series that treats giant robots at war seriously. It splits focus between the Autobots' secret base and the human teens who discover it, building genuine stakes and character arcs across three seasons. For viewers who want spectacle with substance and don't mind animation doing the heavy lifting.

Arcane: League of Legends2021
Gorgeous hand-animated sequences punctuate a story about class, power, and fractured relationships that hits harder than its premise suggests. Character work matters more than plot mechanics.
But Slow to start and emotionally grueling. If you want straightforward action and fun, this will feel heavy-handed.

Avatar: The Last Airbender2005
Three seasons of perfectly structured storytelling. Magic systems that make sense, villains who grow, and humor that never cheapens the stakes. Animation as a tool for ambition, not compromise.
But First season is uneven and plays younger than it becomes. Commitment required before it clicks into gear.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood2009
Alchemist brothers seek redemption across 64 episodes that earn every emotional beat. Lore-heavy, character-driven, visually inventive. Animation from a studio at full throttle.
But Dense mythology and a large cast can feel overwhelming. Requires real attention and patience with long exposition.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Sidonia no Kishi2014
Both are CG-animated action series that respect their mythology; both use the Aligned Continuity's approach—treating robot/alien warfare as a real, grinding conflict that extracts a price.
Humanity fights aliens in sleek CG mecha. Japanese anime approach to sci-fi scale and consequence. Genuinely inventive design work and a willingness to let major characters die.
But Heavy CG animation takes adjustment and some find it plasticky. Requires subtitles unless you speak Japanese.

Young Justice2010
Teenage superheroes doing covert ops. Sharp writing, visual storytelling that trusts the audience, and a willingness to let character decisions hurt. Season two especially.
But Cancelled twice and picked up again. Uneven pacing and occasional narrative dead ends from that turbulent history.

The Legend of Vox Machina2022
D&D campaign adapted into a fantasy series that understands what makes character-driven action sing. Genuinely funny, genuinely moving, never pretending to be more serious than it is.
But Comedy timing means it won't grip everyone. Animation quality varies wildly between sequences.

Castlevania2017
Gothic action with vampire hunters and actual stakes. Fluid fight choreography, strong character voices (literally and narratively), and a real ending instead of trailing off.
But First season is four episodes of setup. Violence is graphic; some found it gratuitous.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners2022
Ten episodes of neon-soaked cyberpunk action that builds to a gut-punch. Character animation is stunning and the action sequences are inventive in ways TV rarely attempts.
But Based on a video game most haven't played. Bleak ending and dark subject matter throughout.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power2018
A reboot that improves on the original by making you care about every character, hero and villain alike. Gorgeous color work and animation that serves the story without showing off.
But Early seasons can feel slight and teen-focused if you're looking for heavier drama. Not everyone vibes with the aesthetic.

Generator Rex2010
Slick action-adventure with crisp animation and a mythology that builds steadily. Light enough to be fun, substantive enough to stick with you. Short seasons mean no filler.
But Cancelled on a cliffhanger and never resolved. Some found it repetitive after two seasons.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing1995
Both use the 'secret base and plucky allies' structure; both treat teenage pilots as central to impossible wars; both balance spectacle with genuine character vulnerability.
Five mobile suit pilots operate giant robots in a war-torn future. Melodramatic, visually inventive, and utterly earnest about its philosophical stakes. The source material that influenced everything after it.
But 1990s animation quality and pacing will frustrate modern viewers. Extremely slow in places; episode 1 takes forever.

Nana2005
Both explore found family and loyalty tested by opposing ideologies; both suggest that the people we live with matter more than the war being fought around us.
Two women named Nana forge a complicated friendship in Tokyo. Beautiful, quiet observation of how people hurt each other without meaning to. Live-action, intimate, gorgeously shot.
But Structurally unfinished—based on an ongoing manga. No satisfying plot resolution, only character moments.
