Strip away the Netflix gloss and the six-episode padding and you get this: the exact same skeleton — an anonymous government employee, a conspiracy that reaches the top, a race to work out who to trust — but made during an era that genuinely distrusted its institutions rather than reassuring you they'll be fine in the end.

The film that essentially wrote this plot first: a low-level, deskbound government researcher stumbles onto something he shouldn't know and spends the rest of the runtime figuring out who's actually trustworthy.

But Moody, unhurried 1970s pacing with none of the modern action beats — this is paranoia as atmosphere, not adrenaline.
