Should you watch it?

Watch it if you enjoy loud, kinetic fight scenes and a found-family group of friends whose bickering matters as much as the battles.

Skip it if you want tight, self-contained stories, since this runs to 116 episodes across nine seasons and its early chapters lean on tropes and goofy comedy.

What it asks of you: Episodes run about thirteen minutes, but the whole run is a long haul, so treat it as a habit built week by week rather than a weekend binge.

Avatar: The Last Airbender2005

A four-person team learning to master elemental powers while navigating school, friendship, and world-ending threats. Masterfully balances comedy, character growth, and animation that gets better with each season.

But It's aimed at a younger audience initially, though it grows more sophisticated. Some find the early pacing slow before hitting its stride.

Kill la Kill2013

Wildly inventive action sequences where character design IS combat design. Shares RWBY's commitment to making fights visually spectacular and emotionally meaningful, packed with style and absurdist humor.

But Deliberately shocking and provocative in its imagery. The energy never stops, which exhausts some viewers. Subtlety is not the point.

My Hero Academia2016

A shonen academy story where a lovable underdog class learns to master superpowers through training, camaraderie, and increasingly dangerous tournaments. The character work is excellent and the action escalates beautifully.

But Runs long enough that some arcs feel padded. The animation quality varies noticeably between seasons and episodes.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Kill Bill: Vol. 12003

Both understand that action sequences work best when a character's weapons, abilities, and personality are inseparable—where watching someone fight IS watching them think and become themselves.

A revenge thriller where a woman assembles a arsenal of skills and faces a color-coded team of opponents. Tarantino's love letter to anime and martial arts cinema, where every fight is choreography, style, and character wrapped together.

But Extremely violent, including sexual assault in backstory. Two-and-a-half hours and deliberately stylized to the point of camp. Not everyone finds that register enjoyable.

Arcane: League of Legends2021

Two sisters on opposite sides of a conflict, stunning animation that evolves throughout, and a perfect balance of character intimacy and spectacular action. Proves animated series can compete with prestige drama.

But Only nine episodes in and it already feels like it might not continue. The pacing is slow by design, which some find glacial.

Demon Slayer2019

Breathtakingly fluid animation in service of a straightforward hero's journey with a likable protagonist. Each fight is choreographed like dance. If you love RWBY's combat sequences, this refines that impulse.

But The plot is fairly conventional and predictable. It trades character depth for visual spectacle, which isn't enough for everyone.

Carole & Tuesday2019

A sci-fi story about two girls finding their place in the world through song and friendship. Gorgeous animation, emotional depth, and a genuine sense that these characters matter to each other and the world.

But Music-focused storytelling won't appeal if you're primarily after action. The pacing meanders deliberately, which requires patience.

The Owl House2020

A girl discovers a magical world and trains to master witchcraft while her squad bonds across found family and genuine stakes. Cartoon, but deeply felt, with fight choreography that knows what it's doing.

But Animated by Disney on television budgets, so never as fluid as theatrical anime. Some find the early season tone uneven.

Castlevania: Nocturne2023

A stylish action-fantasy with gorgeous animation, a revenge-driven hero, and a scrappy team learning to work together against supernatural threats. Each season levels up the scope while keeping character relationships central.

But The first season takes time to establish its cast before the action peaks. Some found the original series more engaging.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners2022

A neon-soaked cyberpunk series about friendship and ambition with fight scenes that prioritize style and impact. Short, punchy, and visually inventive in ways that feel fresh even within anime.

But At 10 episodes it ends abruptly just as things deepen. Heavy on mood and flash, lighter on plot complexity.
