Rock opera
Rock opera takes the grand ambition of a stage musical and hands it to electric guitars, usually to tell a story about a performer who has lost the thread between who they are and who the crowd wants them to be. The songs carry the plot the way dialogue would elsewhere, so a single riff can deliver a betrayal or a breakdown. Expect operatic excess, big choruses, and a sincere belief that a rock anthem can still break your heart.
