But If you've just watched Top Secret!, the rhythm and gag types feel close enough to rhyme rather than surprise.

But Black-and-white 1930s pacing and vaudeville rhythms take some adjustment if you're used to modern comic timing.

ZAZ's TV pilot for Naked Gun: six perfect half-hours of deadpan absurdity, famously cancelled for being too funny to half-watch while doing chores.

But It only ran six episodes, so you'll fall in love just as it ends.

The Lives of Others2006

Top Secret! plays East German surveillance for laughs; this film shows what that same world actually felt like, giving the joke's backdrop real weight.

An Oscar-winning drama about a Stasi officer surveilling a writer in East Berlin, showing the real dread that Top Secret! turns into silly villains and slapstick.
