It's gorgeous, painterly, and sneaks real feeling in past your defences with wit and slapstick before it wallops you. Built for kids but aimed, unmistakably, at anyone who has ever loved something that wasn't theirs to keep.

Wild Robot fictionalizes what this documentary shows happened for real: an outsider earning trust from a creature that owes it nothing, and the grief built into loving something wild.

A real documentary about a man forming a genuine, patient bond with a wild octopus over a year of daily free-dives — interspecies attachment with no script and no safety net.

But No animation, no plot engineering, just quiet observation; it moves slower and ends with the harsher facts of real animal life.
