Singham Returns

Singham Returns is a high-octane Bollywood action sequel where Ajay Devgn's righteous cop battles corruption and black money with spectacular set pieces and uncompromising intensity. It's a masala film that doesn't apologize for its earnestness—pure genre entertainment, loud and unapologetic, for viewers who want heroism without irony.

Drishyam2015

Another Ajay Devgn triumph, but this one is a taut psychological thriller. A man protects his family through intelligence rather than fists—smart cinema that still grabs you by the throat.

But It's dialogue-heavy and cerebral. If you're here specifically for the action and spectacle, this will feel slow and claustrophobic.

Wanted2008

Salman Khan's over-the-top action fantasy with the same 'untouchable cop versus criminals' energy. Absurd, grandiose, and completely committed to its own ridiculousness in the best way.

But The logic is nonexistent. You have to switch your brain off entirely, and even then it's hard to follow what's happening or why.

Jai Bhim2021

Suriya as a lawyer fighting systemic injustice with real urgency and moral weight. Action serves the story, not the reverse—this is what happens when the cop-versus-corruption framework gets weaponized for truth.

But It's serious cinema about real brutality. No comic relief, no romance subplot. Two and a half hours of relentless pressure, and the ending won't cheer you up.

The wildcard

Something you would not have found on your own.

Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani2002

Both films operate in the register of genre excess and moral clarity—they're not interested in subtlety. But where Singham Returns uses realism as its container, this uses horror and the supernatural, asking the same cop to fight crime in a world where the rules don't apply.

An anthology action horror film where a cop pursues a supernatural creature across multiple timelines. The action is as committed as Singham, but the genre machinery is completely different—horror-action instead of justice-action.

But It's genuinely weird and tonally inconsistent by design. The horror elements may feel out of place if you're expecting a straightforward thriller, and the VFX are dated even for 2002.

Raid2018

Ajay Devgn again, but in a tense single-location thriller about a tax raid during the Emergency. Lean, clever, stripped of excess—proof he doesn't need explosions to hold a room.

But It's deliberately confined and talky. The 'action' is mostly procedural tension rather than set pieces. Feels small after watching Singham Returns.

Sooryavansham

Amitabh Bachchan as a vengeful father in a sprawling action-family saga. The same melodramatic intensity and operatic moral clarity that makes Singham work, just with more gray in the hair.

But It's almost four hours long and structurally chaotic. The tone shifts violently between genres, and the climax will test your patience even if you're enjoying it.

Commando - A One Man Army2013

Vidyut Jammwal's muscles and genuinely innovative fight choreography in a straightforward action thriller. Less concerned with plot than Singham, more interested in what bodies can do.

But The story is functional at best, the dialogue is clunky, and the emotional beats land with a thud. It exists to show off action, nothing more.

Baby2015

Akshay Kumar in a grittier, globe-trotting espionage thriller where the good guys are still absolutely ruthless. Corruption is fought with the state's own methods—morally murkier but more interesting.

But It's cynical in ways Singham Returns isn't. If you want clear heroes and clear villains, the moral ambiguity here will frustrate you.

Policegiri2013

Shenoy as a lazy, incompetent cop who stumbles into heroism. A gentler, funnier take on police action cinema that doesn't lose the thrills, just makes space for character.

But The humor won't land if you don't know Marathi cinema. It's also much smaller in scale, almost a comedy first and an action film second.

Natrang2010

Both celebrate the outsized, unironic hero who refuses to bow to a corrupt system. But where Singham uses violence and authority, Natarang uses performance and charisma—the same engine, completely different fuel.

A Marathi film about an aging street theater actor who becomes a folk hero through raw charisma and defiance. The same uncompromising heroism and love of spectacle as Singham Returns, but channeled through art and theater rather than police action. Utterly singular cinema.

But It's a three-hour Marathi-language film with minimal plot. The protagonist is a mess and not likeable. If you need a clear narrative arc and sympathetic characters, you will hate this.
