Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie Wars Full Throttle
- Superhero
- Science fiction
- Relentless
A Japanese superhero team-up film where two Kamen Rider heroes—one who gained god-like powers, one a detective with a sentient AI partner—collide across separate timelines. It's a love letter to long-running tokusatsu (special effects) series, stuffed with callbacks, high-stakes action, and the kind of earnest emotional investment only Japanese TV franchises can pull off. For fans of the shows, or anyone who likes their superhero spectacle weird and sincere.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you already know the Kamen Rider rhythm of transformations and monster-of-the-week set pieces and want to see two separate casts of heroes share a screen in a loud, bright crossover.
Skip it if you haven't watched the two TV series, the story will feel like a private joke, and the nonstop noise can crowd out any real sense of character.
What it asks of you: A brisk ninety-three minutes with two plots braided together, so attention keeps switching between heroes and rarely settles into a quiet moment.

Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO Movie Wars Mega Max2011
A high schooler befriends aliens and gains a space-themed Rider form. Lighter and funnier than Gaim but with the same DNA: ordinary people thrust into extraordinary conflict, genuine friendships under pressure.
But The tonal whiplash between comedy and serious story beats won't work for everyone. Some episodes feel like filler.

Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie Wars Ultimatum2012
A Rider powered by magic battles monsters born from human despair. Strong character writing, inventive action choreography, and real thematic depth about hope. A gateway drug to the franchise's better shows.
But It runs 53 episodes and requires patience. The first arc is stronger than later ones.

Gatchaman Crowds2013
A team of powered civilians fights interdimensional threats. Colourful, clever, fast-paced with genuine character chemistry. The same spirit of friendship-under-fire, just in anime form.
But Very anime in sensibility and art style. The self-aware comedy won't appeal if you want straightforward action.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Blade Runner 20492017
Both center on beings discovering they're not human and grappling with what that means. Both use that revelation as the emotional core of the story, not the plot.
A slow-burn sci-fi noir about a replicant detective hunting for impossible answers. Gorgeous cinematography, philosophical depth, and a climactic revelation that recontextualizes everything. Proof that sci-fi can be visually ravishing and emotionally patient.
But It moves deliberately. There's less action than you'd expect, and character moments dominate. The plot is secondary to mood and theme.

Kamen Rider Agito: Project G42001
A young man discovers he's not the only one with a Rider form, as others emerge. Mystery-driven, beautifully shot, and genuinely moving. The blueprint for how Kamen Rider could tell intimate stories at scale.
But It's from 2001, so the special effects look dated. Only 51 episodes but pacing dips mid-series.

Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider OOO & W Featuring Skull: Movie Wars Core2010
A man bonded with a coin-based ancient being must transform to survive. Gorgeous color work, inventive monster designs, real narrative stakes. The show that proved tokusatsu could be arty.
But Some find the comedy bits jarring against darker story beats. The ending divides fans.

Kamen Rider Ghost2015
A young man bonded with a ghost fights to uncover a mystery while running low on time. Atmospheric, emotionally generous, with excellent action direction. Underrated entry in the franchise.
But Slow burn pacing frustrated many viewers. Late-series changes in direction feel uneven.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story2020
Both are Japanese genre shows that weaponize emotional investment in characters to devastating effect. Both promise a standard adventure and deliver something darker and more profound about the cost of power.
Looks like a cute magical girl show; reveals itself to be about cosmic horror and sacrifice. The tonal pivot is extraordinary. The final episodes recontextualize the entire series and touch on genuine tragedy. Animation is inventive and moody.
But The early episodes feel saccharine if you don't know what's coming. Only 12 episodes, but the shift in register will alienate viewers who wanted lightheartedness. The art style changes radically mid-series.
