Garuda
Garuda is a Kannada-language action thriller centered on a man's personal vendetta against a criminal who destroyed his family and threatens the nation. It's a revenge narrative with political stakes, built on the familiar architecture of justice pursued through violence. For viewers who appreciate direct, propulsive storytelling and don't require subtlety in their moral questions.

Pushpa: The Rise2021
A Telugu-language revenge thriller with genuine charisma, complex antagonism, and the kind of stylized action that rewards close watching. It's muscular filmmaking that trusts its audience to stay engaged without winking.
But Over two and a half hours, and the second half sags. Some will find the macho posturing exhausting rather than entertaining.

Bāhubali: The Beginning2015
South Indian cinema at peak ambition—enormous action sequences, a revenge plot with mythic weight, and genuine emotional stakes. Visually stunning and narratively satisfying in ways that justify the scale.
But The spectacle can feel like it's the whole point. If you want character development over pageantry, this will frustrate you.

Khiladi2023
A Hindi-language action thriller that moves with real urgency and doesn't waste time on exposition. Clean, propulsive, and genuinely tense in its better moments.
But Predictable plotting and thin characterization. It hits the beats you expect it to hit, nothing more.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Harakiri1962
Both use a personal vendetta as their engine, but Harakiri asks what that vendetta costs, while most revenge thrillers ask only whether it succeeds. It's the same question asked with a conscience.
A Japanese samurai film that deconstructs the very mythology of honor-through-revenge that action thrillers take for granted. It's a revenge story that turns the genre inside out—aesthetically stunning and morally devastating.
But Slow and deliberately paced, with subtlety that requires active watching. The violence, when it comes, is jarring rather than cathartic. You will not feel satisfied in the way Garuda might make you feel.

Article 152019
A visceral Hindi-language thriller about systemic corruption and personal justice, built on genuine anger rather than just spectacle. It earns its intensity.
But Unrelentingly bleak. This is not cathartic—it leaves you with the weight of what you've watched.

Commando - A One Man Army2013
A Hindi-language revenge action film that commits fully to its genre without pretension. Fast, functional, and genuinely entertaining if you surrender to what it's trying to do.
But No ambition beyond entertainment. The plot is tissue-thin and the character work is minimal.

Kabali2016
A Tamil-language crime thriller with stylistic flair and a protagonist driven by a personal mission. Rajinikanth brings gravitas to a role that could have been routine.
But The pacing is uneven and it can't quite balance its ambitions. Feels bloated in stretches.

Raid2018
A taut Hindi-language thriller built on a single location and genuine stakes. The writing is sharp and the tension is real; it respects both its premise and its audience.
But Claustrophobic and relentless. If you need moments to breathe, this won't give them to you.

Srimanthudu2015
A Telugu-language drama with action elements that uses its revenge plot to explore larger questions about duty and redemption. More character-focused than most films in this space.
But Occasionally lapses into melodrama. The philosophical questions don't always land as intended.

The Godfather Part II1974
Both center a man avenging his family while navigating larger political forces. But Godfather understands that revenge is a trap disguised as justice—it asks Garuda's question with the wisdom of hindsight.
A crime epic that uses parallel revenge narratives—one old, one new—to explore how violence perpetuates across generations. Operatic in scope but intimate in its understanding of why men pursue vengeance.
But Nearly four hours, and it moves on its own rhythm, not yours. Patient and deliberate in ways that can feel glacial if you're not attuned to its register.

A Prophet2009
Both follow a man on a mission through a criminal underworld, but A Prophet is about systems and adaptation, not heroic individual action. It's what a revenge thriller looks like when you remove the assumption that the protagonist is right.
A French thriller about a man who enters prison as a victim and emerges as a player in the prison's criminal ecosystem. Taut, intelligent, and genuinely suspenseful—it shows how personal survival becomes political power.
But Bleak and morally murky. There's no clear hero here, only people doing what they must to survive. Uncomfortable in ways designed intentionally.
