Blue Exorcist: The Movie
A supernatural action film set in an academy for demon-fighting exorcists. Rin Okumura, a half-demon teenager, confronts a rogue phantom train during his school's festival week. It's kinetic, visually inventive anime with heart—pitched at fans of high-stakes fantasy adventure who enjoy character stakes alongside spectacle.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Sibling's Bond2019
Stunning animation and brutal action sequences with genuine emotional weight. A young swordsman battles demons to save his sister, with the same blend of humor, camaraderie, and high-stakes spectacle that drives Blue Exorcist.
But The plot is fairly straightforward, and if anime action doesn't engage you visually, the story won't carry you through.

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes2018
A team of young heroes with developing powers faces an impossible threat. It captures that same energy of teenagers discovering their abilities and learning to work together under pressure.
But Assumes you're invested in the characters already; newcomers may find the references confusing and the emotional stakes distant.

Jujutsu Kaisen 02021
Visually stunning supernatural action with a tight, personal story about a cursed teenager learning to control dark power. The animation is phenomenal and the emotional core is genuine.
But Very dark in tone—less fun and banter than Blue Exorcist, more relentlessly grim. Requires patience with slower character moments.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army2008
Both center a half-demon protagonist discovering belonging in a found family while fighting monsters; both balance action with character tenderness and wry humor.
Guillermo del Toro's fantasy-horror actioner features a half-demon hero fighting supernatural threats alongside a ragtag team. It has the same blend of dark humor, practical creature design, and genuine emotion as Blue Exorcist, but grounded in practical effects and live-action. The relationship dynamics—between hero, partner, and mentor—mirror the ensemble warmth.
But Del Toro's visual register is darker and stranger; if you want anime's sleeker energy rather than practical grotesquerie, this will feel off.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War2022
A supernatural tournament with high stakes, compelling rivalries, and characters who grow into their power. Long-form storytelling lets relationships deepen in ways a single film can't.
But The pacing is uneven; early episodes move slowly, and you'll need to commit to 30+ hours to reach the payoff.

Mahoutsukai no Yome2017
A fantasy series about learning magic in a world where human and supernatural coexist, with genuine warmth alongside danger. The worldbuilding is rich and the animation lovely.
But It's quieter and more contemplative than Blue Exorcist; if you want constant action, this will feel slow.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works2014
A supernatural action series with multiple factions, hidden powers, and characters who hide their true nature. The animation is gorgeous and the fight choreography inventive.
But The premise is complex and gets more convoluted; you may find yourself frustrated by exposition and plotting.

Noragami2014
A god of calamity and a human girl form an unlikely partnership to solve supernatural problems. It mixes action, humor, and genuine heart in a way that feels fresh and unpredictable.
But Tone whiplash between comedy and tragedy can feel jarring; some episodes prioritize fun over coherent storytelling.

Fire Force2019
A team of firefighters battles supernatural combustion and uncovers a conspiracy. It's visually dynamic with strong ensemble chemistry and escalating mystery.
But Character development is thin and the plot eventually becomes convoluted; the later story can feel like it's spinning wheels.

The Midnight Gospel2020
Both use animation and supernatural frameworks to explore what it means to find purpose and connection; both trust their audience to sit with emotional complexity.
An animated miniseries pairing absurdist comedy with profound philosophical conversations about death, meaning, and acceptance. Episodes are only 20-25 minutes, and the visuals are hallucinogenic and beautiful. It's weird, funny, and devastatingly human.
But Narratively experimental—no traditional plot; if you need linear storytelling or clear resolution, this will frustrate you. The subject matter is heavy.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story2020
Both feature teenagers with hidden demonic/supernatural nature discovering that their power comes with existential cost; both ask what you'd sacrifice to protect others.
A magical-girl anime that subverts the genre entirely—what looks like a cheerful transformation story becomes a tragedy about sacrifice and cosmic horror. The twist midway through recontextualizes everything you've seen. Perfect if you want that sensation of the ground shifting beneath you.
But The first few episodes are deliberately cutesy and slow; you have to trust the story before it pays off. Very bleak ending.
