Baby Mama
Tina Fey's uptight executive and Amy Poehler's scrappy surrogate spend nine months colliding over class, control, and what family actually means, wrapped in mile-a-minute jokes about mommy blogs and organic juice. It's broad, glossy studio comedy, but Fey and Poehler's chemistry gives it real warmth underneath the gags. Good for anyone who wants to laugh at parenthood before living through it.

Bridesmaids2011
The gold standard of the 2010s female-led comedy boom, with the same mix of genuine friendship, class anxiety, and gags that go for broke without losing their emotional core.
But Its raunchier, messier tone and longer runtime are a step up in chaos from Baby Mama's tidier studio polish.

Sisters2015no page yet
Fey and Poehler reunite as siblings throwing one last house party, and their comic timing together is even looser and filthier here than in Baby Mama.
But Trades the pregnancy plot for a house-party farce, so if it was the baby stuff you wanted, this swerves elsewhere.
Knocked Up2007
Same era, same unlikely-pairing premise — a mismatched couple forced together by an unplanned pregnancy — but filtered through Apatow's shaggier, more improvisational style.
But Leans male-focused and runs long; some of its gender jokes feel dated next to Baby Mama's sharper edges.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
The Handmaid's Tale2017
Baby Mama plays the class and power imbalance of hired reproduction for warmth and comedy; this show plays the same transaction as dystopian horror, showing exactly what's underneath the joke if you push it further.
Take the exact same premise — a woman's body contracted to produce a baby for someone else — and strip away every joke. What's left is horrifying, and that's the point.
But It is bleak, violent, and unrelenting; nothing about it is designed to make you laugh, ever.

Baby Boom1987
Diane Keaton's career woman gets an unexpected baby dropped on her lap and has to rebuild her entire life around it — basically Baby Mama's spiritual grandmother.
But Very much an 80s artifact in pacing and politics, with a workplace-comedy slickness that feels quaint now.

Raising Arizona1987
The Coen brothers' manic tale of an infertile couple who solve the problem by stealing a baby is Baby Mama's premise turned feral and gorgeously weird.
But Its cartoonish violence and Southern-gothic strangeness are a wilder ride than Baby Mama's cozier studio comedy.

Juno2007
A teenage pregnancy comedy-drama that treats an unconventional path to parenthood with the same warmth and wit, just from the other side of the adoption transaction.
But Quirkier dialogue and a more melancholy undertone than Baby Mama's broader, sitcom-bright humor.

The Back-Up Plan2010no page yet
Jennifer Lopez plays a single woman who gets artificially inseminated right before meeting the man of her dreams — the same fertility-comedy engine, minus the surrogate twist.
But Softer and more conventionally romantic, without Fey and Poehler's odd-couple spark to sharpen the jokes.
Away We Go2009no page yet
An expectant couple cross the country auditioning cities and lifestyles for their coming child, mixing comedy and quiet ache in a way that complements Baby Mama's lighter touch.
But Slower, more indie and introspective — don't expect the same joke density or big comic set pieces.
Private Benjamin1980
Goldie Hawn's pampered widow gets thrown into the Army and forced to toughen up, echoing Baby Mama's class-collision comedy of a soft life meeting a hard one.
But No pregnancy plot at all, and its military-comedy setting is a different world from Baby Mama's domestic one.

Google Baby2009no page yet
Baby Mama fictionalizes hiring another woman's body to have a child; this documentary shows that exact arrangement as a global for-profit industry, with all the ethics Baby Mama sidesteps for laughs.
A documentary tracing the real international surrogacy industry, following an Israeli entrepreneur outsourcing pregnancies to Indian women for wealthy Western clients — the mechanics behind the punchline.
But It's a talky, sobering nonfiction film with no plot momentum or comic relief, closer to journalism than entertainment.
Adam's Rib1949
Same engine — a sharp, successful woman colliding with social expectations about womanhood and career, played as comedy of manners rather than melodrama — just sixty years earlier and dressed in pearls instead of yoga pants.
Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy spar as married lawyers on opposite sides of a case, turning gender roles and career ambition into rapid-fire comic warfare decades before Fey and Poehler did.
But Black-and-white, courtroom-bound, and mannered in a very 1940s way that some modern viewers find stagey.
