Television series
Space Sheriff Gavan
A 1982 Japanese tokusatsu series where a cosmic lawman arrives on Earth to fight an extradimensional evil empire. Think ultra-violent space western filtered through rubber suits and practical effects. It's gloriously earnest, kinetic, and built on the principle that every problem can be solved by a man in a helmet shooting lasers. Pure Sunday morning adventure.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you love old-school suit-and-costume hero shows, with guy-in-a-suit monsters, clanking gadgets and a sincere, earnest hero who takes the job very seriously.
Skip it if you want slow character drama or modern polish, since the effects and storytelling are plainly of their era and each episode is built around a weekly fight.
What it asks of you: Forty-four half-hour episodes, taken in small weekly doses, with a bright, earnest tone you must accept on its own sincere terms.
